Your role within Major Projects will support the department to deliver housing assistance, homelessness support services, local government support and advice, state and regional planning, public works building and design and industry regulatory reform. The work you will do helps someone every day, and that means the world to us.

The position will focus primarily on delivering construction projects by undertaking intensive negotiations with stakeholders, collaborating with senior officers in other government agencies and resolving issues associated with project development and delivery.

What You Will Be Doing

  • Project manage the implementation of complex capital works projects, utilising various procurement methods including design and construct, two-stage contracts and traditional methods.
  • Be engaged in the end-to-end delivery of significant high risk, high valued projects that contain varied and significant constraints.
  • Manage competing project management priorities and achieve project milestones on time and to budget.
  • Manage the performance of multi-disciplinary teams in the delivery of large and complex capital works projects including pre-design, design, documentation, tendering, contract administration and post occupancy evaluation activities to consistently meet project time, cost and quality requirements.
  • Prepare high quality briefs and reports, including cabinet submissions and other significant policy and project management papers on complex issues relevant to capital works projects.
  • Prepare comprehensive monthly project management reports and associated documentation, including but not limited to responsibility for cost statement management, time and risk.
  • Develop and maintain effective working relationships and liaise and negotiate with senior management of other government agencies, community groups and the private sector on a range of key project issues.
  • Understand the key drivers and risks of differing procurement methodologies and develop strategies relevant to those models to ensure successful project delivery.
  • Draw on your experience and understanding of legal, commercial and policy matters to provide direction for complex capital works projects.
  • Provide authoritative advice on project delivery, risks and procurement strategies, supporting decision-making at senior levels.
  • Facilitate and or participate in workshops in the determination of the procurement models for contractors and prepare comprehensive procurement documentation, include tender packages, scope of works and contract documentation.
  • Apply expertise in the procurement methodologies, including procurement processes and contract administration, to ensure effective project delivery.
