Position Summary
The Operations Manager oversees the day-to-day activities of the Operations Team— including Dispatch, Drivers, and supporting staff—ensuring the effective execution of transportation services and the accurate recording of all activities in the company’s transportation management system. Reporting to the Terminal Manager, this role is responsible for leading supervisors, drivers, and support personnel in accordance with company policies and procedures to achieve optimal operational efficiency and exceptional customer service.
Location: Mississauga
Dayshift: Monday to Friday
What you will do
- Assisting in interviewing, training, developing staff skill sets, and coaching for all support staff and drivers within their area of responsibility.
- Scheduling and communicating with staff, including drivers and equipment resources.
- Ensuring 24-hour shift coverage.
- Assisting Dispatchers or front-line supervisors in troubleshooting and resolving day-to-day issues and activities.
- Supporting P&L management by monitoring operational expenses, identifying cost-saving opportunities, and ensuring financial performance aligns with company targets.
- Monitoring service levels to ensure customer expectations are met or exceeded.
- Ensuring Dispatchers and Drivers have the necessary tools to perform their job functions.
- Ensure all required skills training is in place based on the requirements of each customer
- Acting as the primary operations point person for any billing/payroll issues for accounts within their area of responsibility.
What you'll bring
- 2-3 years of operations management experience
- Transportation industry experience
- College diploma, or trade apprenticeship certification
- Excellent leadership and analytical skills
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to handle multiple projects and tasks
- Direct experience with staff scheduling in a variable work volume environment
- MS Office proficiency is necessary
