About Block Earner

Block Earner is a forward-thinking Australian crypto startup bridging the gap between traditional finance and decentralised finance. We empower everyday Australians by giving them access to crypto-backed credit products.

We are entering a pivotal growth phase. As we scale our exchange and lending operations, we are looking for a high-potential Compliance Officer to own our regulatory roadmap and safeguard our operations.

The Role

This is not a "tick-the-box" compliance role. You will be the engine room of our Risk, Regulatory, and Financial Crime functions.

You will take ownership of two critical strategic initiatives: securing our own Australian Financial Services Licence (AFSL) and Australian Credit Licence (ACL), and managing our AML/CTF Program end-to-end. You will be hands-on, diving deep into transaction alerts one hour and drafting licensing applications the next.

Key Responsibilities

1)Regulatory Licensing & Strategy

  • Licensing Roadmap: Lead the end-to-end application process for securing Block Earner’s own AFSL and ACL.
  • Regulatory Liaison: Act as the primary internal point of contact for ASIC and external legal counsel regarding licensing requirements under the Corporations Act and NCCP Act.
  • Obligation Management: Once licensed, design and implement the monitoring frameworks to ensure ongoing compliance with licence conditions and ASIC Regulatory Guides (e.g., RG 271, RG 78).

2) Financial Crime & AML/CTF Ownership

  • Program Management: Maintain and update our Joint AML/CTF Program (Part A & Part B) to ensure it remains compliant with the AML/CTF Act 2006 and AUSTRAC Rules.
  • Operational Execution: Manage the day-to-day AML functions, including reviewing transaction monitoring alerts (fiat & crypto), conducting Enhanced Due Diligence (ECDD) on high-risk customers, and managing PEP screening.
  • Reporting: Prepare and lodge regulatory reports, including Suspicious Matter Reports (SMRs), International Funds Transfer Instruction (IFTI) reports, and the Annual Compliance Report.

3) Risk & Governance

  • Product Compliance: Review new products prior to launch to ensure compliance with Design & Distribution Obligations (DDO) and disclosure requirements.
  • Training & Culture: Deliver AML/CTF risk awareness training to staff and foster a culture of compliance across the all teams.

About You

You are ambitious, academically rigorous, and ready to "get your hands dirty." You don’t just flag problems; you build the solutions to fix them.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Experience: 3–5 years of experience in Risk, Compliance, or Financial Crime, preferably within a fintech, crypto exchange, or 'Big 4' risk advisory practice.
  • Academic Background: A double degree in Law and Commerce/Business is highly preferred to navigate the intersection of complex legislation and commercial reality.
  • Regulatory Knowledge: Deep understanding of the AML/CTF Act 2006. Exposure to Chapter 7 of the Corporations Act (AFSL) and NCCP Act (Credit) is essential.

Desirable Skills:

  • Experience assisting with regulatory license applications (AFSL/ACL) and more generally working with regulators.
  • Familiarity with crypto-specific compliance tools (e.g., Merkle Science, Onfido, Chainalysis).
  • Understanding of blockchain mechanics (wallet structures, DeFi protocols, stablecoins).
  • Ability and willingness to get your hands dirty (e.g., crunch data to identify transaction monitoring issues)

Why Join Us?

  • Ownership: You won't be a cog in a machine. You will build the regulatory foundations of a future market leader.
  • Impact: Your work directly enables product innovation and international expansion.
  • Growth: Work side-by-side with founders and directors in a fast-paced, high-integrity environment.
