Job Description - Roles and Responsibilities
About the Role
As Scrum Master for a Gas Flow Management (GFM) product team, you will serve as a key enabler of team performance, fostering an agile mindset and supporting the delivery of digital solutions that underpin core commercial and operational processes.
You will coach teams and stakeholders to inspect and adapt effectively, foster self-management, and help simplify organizational structures and processes to support feature teams. You will guide teams and Product Owners in practicing Scrum across multiple teams working on one product. This is an opportunity to contribute to the long-term evolution of a critical product that supports gas flow management for multiple Transmission System Operators (TSOs) across Europe. The product scope spans customer onboarding, contracting, flow planning, billing, reporting, and more—serving the entire lifecycle of gas transmission and preparing for low-carbon energy futures.
Key Responsibilities:
- Guide and support the agile team by facilitating Scrum ceremonies: daily stand-ups, sprint planning, backlog refinement, sprint reviews, and retrospectives
- Guide your teams through the change from component to newly-formed cross-functional feature teams
- Inspire and coach the new Scrum Masters from other teams (experienced team & project leaders with limited experience in scaled agile environments)
- Coach the team on self-organization, (scaled) Agile principles, and continuous improvement to maximize team autonomy and performance
- Enable teams to identify and address their own impediments while you focus on removing systemic obstacles that limit agility or cross-team collaboration
- Foster collaboration between team members and with stakeholders, including product owners, analysts, developers, and business users
- Help maintain a healthy and sustainable team pace, balancing delivery goals with team well-being
- Support the Product Owner in maintaining a well-organized and transparent backlog
- Drive improvements in agile practices and tools (e.g. metrics, retrospectives, team health checks)
- Support transparency of product progress by encouraging clear definitions of done, visible backlogs, and frequent inspection across all teams
- Actively facilitate cross-team alignment, knowledge sharing, and dependency management in a scaled agile environment - ensuring collaboration not just within the team, but across the broader product landscape and external stakeholders
- Promote shared agile practices, synchronize ways of working, and help bridge communication between teams working on interconnected systems
- Encourage a culture of accountability, learning, and mutual respect
- Support talent development and continuous growth by coaching team members, facilitating skill-building opportunities, and encouraging a learning mindset
- Collaborate with the product people manager and other stakeholders to identify skill gaps and support career progression initiatives within the team
Mindset we value
- Proven experience as a Scrum Master in a scaled agile environment (preferably LeSS), ideally in a complex or regulated domain.
- Profound understanding and certification in a scaled agile framework (e.g. LeSS, SAFe, …) is a must. Other relevant agile certifications (PSM I/II, CSM, …) are considered a plus.
- Strong change management skills
- Proven experience in working effectively with cross-functional teams and diverse stakeholder groups
- Strong facilitation, coaching, and conflict resolution skills
- Experience with concurrent development practices and ability to coach developers from a technical point of view on this, is a big plus.
- Experience with agile delivery tools (e.g. Azure DevOps, Jira, or similar platforms) is a plus
- Familiarity with modern DevOps practices and agile delivery pipelines is a plus
- Experience in any other role within a software delivery environment (e.g. QA, developer, analyst, support)
- Excellent communication skills in English (spoken and written); knowledge of Dutch or French is a plus
