Contract Software Engineer – Data Systems / Platforms (DSP)

6-month initial contract | Onsite (potential hybrid)

A top-tier quantitative research and trading firm is looking for a Contract Software Engineer to join its Data Systems & Platforms (DSP) group.

This team is responsible for scaling data access from large compute environments and making core datasets available, consistent, and performant across research and trading. The focus is on data loading, distribution, and the underlying infrastructure that holds and serves critical datasets.

What you’ll be working on

• Scaling data access for compute-heavy research workloads

• Data loading and distribution across C# and JVM-based systems

• Rewriting and modernising existing C# libraries

• Supporting and improving core data holding and access infrastructure

• Replacing legacy C# server components with newer, event-driven solutions (Kafka)

• Improving reliability, throughput, and performance of data pipelines

Tech environment

• C# (core services and libraries)

• Some JVM-based services

• SQL Server

• Delta Lake

• Kafka (migration from legacy systems)

What they’re looking for

• Strong commercial experience with C# (or another typed language)

• Solid data processing and data engineering experience

• Experience working on data platforms or data access layers

• Exposure to distributed systems and messaging platforms

• Kafka experience is highly desirable

6-month initial contract with scope to extend. Onsite by default, with potential hybrid flexibility.
