Role Background

We’re looking for an experienced Product Owner to lead the delivery of a comprehensive smart ticketing solution for a government contract. If you’ve owned complex government or enterprise SaaS products end-to-end and love turning detailed requirements into real, shipped features, this could be a great fit.

What's on offer

  • Contract: 12-month fixed-term contract with strong possibility of extension and permanent conversion
  • Location: Remote (Australia/New Zealand preferred)

What you’ll be doing

In this role, you will:

  • Own the product delivery for our smart ticketing platform over a critical 6-month+ program of work.
  • Translate government contract requirements into actionable development briefs, user stories, and Gherkin acceptance criteria.
  • Manage the product roadmap, backlog, and release schedule for the delivery track, balancing contract deliverables, tech dependencies, and business value.
  • Collaborate closely with internal dev teams and external stakeholders to ensure alignment and clear communication.
  • Lead requirements definition across smart card passenger categories, trip/journey/transfer rules, fare configuration, reporting, and compliance.
  • Own GTFS & GTFS-RT integration with systems, ensuring schedule and real-time data flows meet standards.
  • Drive agile delivery – running sprint planning, backlog grooming, stand-ups, reviews, retros, and UAT planning.
  • Shape the customer experience through customer portal flows, UX mockups, and WCAG-compliant designs.

You’ll be a great fit if you have

Must-have experience

  • 5+ years as a Product Owner, Product Manager, or Business Analyst in a software development environment.
  • Proven experience delivering government or enterprise SaaS platforms through the full development lifecycle.
  • Strong agile delivery experience (Scrum/Kanban) including running sprints and ceremonies.
  • Demonstrated ability to write technical requirements, user stories, and testable acceptance criteria.
  • Experience creating UAT test plans and coordinating acceptance testing with stakeholders.
  • Proficiency with Jira and Confluence.

Highly desirable

  • Experience with transit ticketing systems, smart cards, or fare collection platforms.
  • Knowledge of GTFS / GTFS-RT standards.
  • Experience with payment systems integration (card payments, online top-ups, PCI).
  • UX skills – ability to create wireframes/mockups/prototypes (Figma, Adobe XD, etc.).
  • Experience working with government agencies and contract/procurement requirements.

Nice to have (bonus points)

  • Understanding of web technologies (e.g. Vue.js, Laravel/PHP, REST APIs).
  • Familiarity with AWS and modern SaaS architecture patterns.
  • Experience with multi-tenant SaaS, org hierarchies, and modern authentication (MFA, OAuth, SSO).

Who you are

  • A self-starter who can take ownership of a complex program with minimal supervision.
  • A clear communicator who can explain complex concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
  • Analytical and detail-oriented, but still able to keep an eye on the bigger picture and deadlines.
  • Comfortable working remotely and collaboratively in a distributed team.

Why join transportme?

  • Lead a high-impact government project with clear scope and timeline.
  • Work on cutting-edge transit technology that directly improves public transport for communities.
  • Enjoy a remote-first, flexible work environment (AU/NZ).
  • Join a tight-knit, technically focused team where your decisions have real impact.
  • Strong potential for the role to extend or convert to permanent.
