In The Role You Will

  • Lead design and development of scalable, secure mobile applications across iOS and Android platforms serving millions of NRL fans
  • Architect comprehensive API strategies including RESTful and GraphQL APIs, API gateways, authentication systems, and API Marketplace infrastructure
  • Drive mobile performance optimisation and implement API security best practices ensuring optimal user experience during peak NRL events
  • Lead and mentor 2 direct reports (Backend API Engineer and Senior Mobile App Engineer), establishing development standards and code review processes
  • Oversee mobile and API development for critical technology assets including NRL Account, Content & Archive, and Data Lakehouse platforms
  • Collaborate with product managers, UX/UI designers, and platform teams to deliver mobile-first solutions using CI/CD pipelines and deployment automation

Ideally you will have:

  • 7+ years mobile and API development experience with 3+ years in technical leadership roles mentoring development teams
  • Proven expertise with React Native, native iOS (Swift/Objective-C), native Android (Kotlin/Java), and cross-platform development frameworks
  • Strong experience with API development including RESTful and GraphQL APIs, API gateways, authentication systems (OAuth 2.0, OpenID Connect), and microservices architecture
  • Demonstrated experience leading mobile application delivery for high-traffic consumer-facing platforms with proven app store management and mobile DevOps practices
  • Deep understanding of mobile architectural patterns (MVVM, Clean Architecture, Redux), performance optimisation, and mobile security frameworks
  • Experience with mobile-specific CI/CD pipelines, cloud platforms (AWS preferred), and proven ability to mentor developers in collaborative, agile environments
