Senior Construction Manager – Structures (Large Rail Project)
Role Profile
Senior role responsible for managing structural works on a large rail project.
The position leads site execution for bridges and rail structures, with full accountability for safety, quality, cost, and schedule.
It requires strong coordination with clients, consultants, and internal teams.
Best suited to an experienced construction leader comfortable operating at site level.
Scope
Direct Reports: 15–25
Indirect Workforce: 100–200
Role Objective
Contractor-side senior leader responsible for delivering rail structure works safely, on time, within budget, and to specification. Accountable for full site execution, stakeholder coordination, technical resolution, cost control, and team development.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and control all structural construction activities in line with contract, quality, HSE, schedule, and cost requirements.
- Execute complex structural works including bridges, piling, foundations, underpasses, and overbridges.
- Coordinate with clients, consultants, and internal teams to resolve design and construction issues, manage contracts, variations, and claims.
- Provide timely technical leadership to maintain progress and minimize disruption.
- Enforce HSE compliance through site inspections and participation in safety meetings.
- Drive value engineering and cost-effective construction methods to improve productivity and reduce waste.
- Oversee planning, progress reporting, logistics, procurement, and execution strategies.
- Chair weekly coordination meetings to track progress, mitigate risks, and update execution plans.
- Collaborate with planning teams on schedules, manpower, equipment, and material flow.
- Select, mentor, and evaluate engineers and supervisors to build a high-performing team.
- Monitor and improve site productivity in line with the approved program.
Key Interactions
- Internal: Engineering, Planning, Commercial, HSE teams for day-to-day execution and reporting.
- External: Clients and Consultants for coordination, approvals, and technical resolution.
Qualifications & Experience
- Degree or Diploma in Civil Engineering.
- 15–20 years’ experience in major infrastructure or rail structure projects.
