As a Frontend Developer at Backlight, you’ll join a global company with talented colleagues located all around the world. You’ll be part of a cross-functional product team working alongside skilled backend engineers, designers, and product managers. You’ll play an important role in shaping the user experience of our products and ensuring that our interfaces are fast, intuitive, and delightful to use.

Your mission is to build high-quality, performant features that empower our users and elevate the Backlight experience. This will include:

• Building and maintaining scalable, reliable, and user-friendly frontend applications using React.
• Designing responsive, accessible, and performant user interfaces that work beautifully across devices.
• Collaborating closely with backend, product, and design teams to integrate APIs and bring features to life.
• Helping diagnose, troubleshoot, and solve real production issues.
• Bringing new ideas around tooling, frameworks, architecture, and ways of working — your creativity matters here.
• Staying up to date with modern frontend technologies and sharing insights that help the team grow.

WHAT YOU NEED TO EMBARK

We work primarily with React, TypeScript, and modern JavaScript, but we believe great engineers can learn new tools and technologies as they go. What matters most is your ability and a genuine drive to build great user experiences and collaborate well. In addition, we believe the right person has:

• 3+ years of experience in building and designing scalable and reliable web applications.
• Experience building and designing frontend applications using React, TypeScript, and JavaScript.
• Experience developing UIs that consume REST APIs.
• Good understanding of Git and GitHub workflows.
• Experience writing clean, structured, testable, and maintainable code.
• Strong communication skills — you collaborate openly and value teamwork.
• Familiarity with agile ways of working.
• Knowledge of CSS frameworks and modern styling approaches.
• Experience working in diverse, cross-functional teams toward a shared goal.

Bonus points if you have:

• Experience building SaaS products.
• Experience mentoring or supporting other engineers.
• Experience working as a scrum master or similar role.
