The Role

 

We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Web Developer / Web Architect to join our Melbourne team.

 

This is a senior, high-impact technical role responsible for the architecture, development, optimisation and evolution of all Ready Media Group digital platforms.

 

Our current core stack is PHP, and you will lead the ongoing refinement, modernisation and long-term replatforming of our systems. You will also oversee and coordinate the output of our on & offshore development team, ensuring a unified engineering standard across both local and offshore teams.

 

You will play a central role in executing Ready Media Group’s transition into AI, enabling new AI-driven workflows, website features, and digital product experiences.

 

Key Responsibilities

 

Technical Leadership & Architecture

  • Demonstrate an understanding of technical architecture of all RMG digital platforms (PHP-based).
  • Design scalable backend systems, APIs, service layers and integration frameworks.
  • Set engineering standards, coding patterns, documentation practices and workflows.
  • Modernise and refactor legacy components for long-term maintainability.
  • Lead key projects with decision-making across frameworks, dependencies, hosting and toolsets.

 

Platform Modernisation

  • Define the future-state architecture for performance, scalability and rapid AI feature deployment.
  • Lead migration strategy, codebase restructuring, documentation and implementation.
  • Collaborate closely with relevant stakeholders including product design, product owners, various departments to deliver the next-generation platform.

 

Collaboration With on and offshore Development Team

  • Lead day-to-day technical coordination with on and offshore engineers.
  • Provide architecture direction, tasks, code reviews and quality oversight.
  • Ensure offshore output meets RMG engineering standards and timelines.
  • Maintain clear communication and alignment across distributed teams.

 

AI-Integrated Web Systems

  • Work closely with our development partners to implement AI-powered features into backend and frontend workflows.
  • Build frameworks enabling conversational UI, AI-driven insights and automation.
  • Work with team to deliver prototypes, models and new digital tools.

 

Web Development & Delivery

  • Write clean, scalable PHP code across backend and frontend layers.
  • Deliver new features, modules, UX refinements and functional enhancements.
  • Optimise site speed, SEO performance, caching, data flow and reliability.
  • Resolve bugs and incidents quickly, maintaining high uptime and user experience.

 

Infrastructure & Integrations

  • Manage hosting environments, deployments, CI/CD pipelines and versioning.
  • Maintain secure servers and optimised cloud environments.
  • Oversee integrations with CRM, authentication, analytics, search and internal systems.
  • Lead continual improvements in devops, automation and development tools.

 

Documentation & Quality Assurance

  • Maintain clear documentation of architecture, codebases, APIs and workflows.
  • Experience with test automation and implementation
  • Implement robust testing, QA processes and release practices.
  • Foster engineering discipline across both local and offshore developers.


What we are looking for

 

TECHNOLOGIES

· LEMP stack (Linux, NGINX, MySQL, PHP)

- Frontend development using modern JavaScript (ES6+), modular architecture, and Webpack-based builds

· Atlassian JIRA/Confluence, Bitbucket, ServiceDesk

· Strong skillset with AWS Infrastructure environments (EC2, RDS, S3, Cache)

· Good understanding of Agile methodology

· Understand CI/CD - Test Automation, Test Driven Development, and build automation using Jenkins

· Building APIs
