The work
As a Senior / Staff Software Engineer on the Browser team in our Platform group, you will be a key architect of our technical vision, setting the direction that powers our entire user interface development. Your primary focus will be on designing the large-scale systems, frameworks, and tools that our product and engineering teams use every day. You are a profound force multiplier, and your work will fundamentally shape the productivity, quality, and technical culture of the entire engineering organisation. This role is perfect for those passionate about solving ambiguous, complex problems, elegant system design, and having a broad, strategic impact across an organisation.

This role offers an exciting opportunity to join Team Browser, a core team within our Platform group. Our vision is to create a "Frictionless Front-End for All". We achieve this by providing a world-class front-end platform that enables Glia's developers to efficiently build, deploy, and maintain high-quality user interfaces. Our work is focused on our design system (Prism), creating intuitive front-end tooling, and establishing solid frameworks that make development easier and more efficient across the entire organization.
Our team is distributed across Estonia (Tartu, Tallinn) and Poland operating in the Eastern European time zone (EET/EEST).

- Backend Context: Go, Elixir and Ruby

Responsibilities
- Architect and lead the development of highly complex, large-scale front-end systems, frameworks, and patterns for the entire organisation
- Drive the organisation's front-end technical vision and strategy, ensuring alignment with long-term business goals
- Take ultimate ownership of the front-end development experience, driving disruptive innovation in our tooling, testing strategies, and deployment pipelines
- Identify and solve the most ambiguous and complex technical problems across the engineering group, developing comprehensive risk management strategies for our most critical initiatives
- Act as a key leader for Prism, our design system, by setting its architectural direction and driving the organisational change required for its evolution and adoption
- Serve as a top-level technical authority and thought leader, mentoring senior engineers and technical leaders across the organisation to raise the bar for technical excellence
- Confidently lead strategic technical discussions, driving alignment and buy-in across the entire organisation and with executive stakeholders
- Contribute at all levels to the day-to-day delivery of projects and maintenance work.
- Experience: 8+ years of professional software development experience with deep expertise in front-end architecture and platform engineering
- Platform & Tooling Experience: Proven experience building tools, frameworks, or large-scale platforms for developers that have been adopted across an organisation
- Programming Languages: Mastery of modern JavaScript/TypeScript and React, with a deep understanding of their underlying principles
- Leadership & Ownership: A proven track record of leading critical, cross-organisational technical initiatives and taking ownership of their strategic outcomes
- System Design: Demonstrable experience designing and building highly scalable and maintainable front-end systems that span multiple domains, with a systematic, data-driven approach to solving ambiguous problems
- Communication: Exceptional communication and mentorship skills, with the ability to influence technical direction at all levels of the organisation and the courage to challenge the status quo
- Ambition: A clear ambition to shape the future of technology within the company and provide strategic technical guidance across the organisation.
- Direct experience building or maintaining a design system or a UI library
- Experience building cross-platform applications with Electron or similar frameworks
- Familiarity with cloud infrastructure, particularly AWS
- Experience with other languages/technologies like Go, Ruby, Elixir, NodeJS
- Experience with visual regression testing tools (e.g., Chromatic, Percy)
- Experience with UX testing frameworks.
