Freelance Network Engineer | Remote | 6 month contract
Our client is a leading IT service provider delivering high-availability backbone, data center, and cloud connectivity solutions to enterprise and carrier customers. Based in Dortmund, they are seeking a freelance Senior Network Engineer with strong Juniper expertise to support backbone expansion and data center network transformation projects.
The role combines Service Provider backbone engineering (Juniper 400G routers) and data center fabric modernization, including migration from legacy topologies to spine–leaf EVPN-VXLAN architectures, with a strong focus on scalability, resilience, and minimal service disruption.
Key Responsibilities
- Design and deliver HLD and LLD for backbone and data center network projects.
- Plan and execute implementations and migrations with minimal downtime.
- Configure and deploy Juniper routers and switches (MX/PTX, EX/QFX) using Junos OS.
- Implement and validate backbone technologies (BGP, OSPF/IS-IS, MPLS) and EVPN-VXLAN fabrics.
- Perform testing, troubleshooting, documentation, and handover to operations teams.
Required Experience
- Strong background in Service Provider and/or large-scale data center networks.
- Hands-on expertise with Juniper platforms and high-capacity (100G/400G) links.
- Proven experience designing spine–leaf and backbone architectures.
- Deep knowledge of BGP, MPLS, OSPF/IS-IS, and EVPN-VXLAN.
- Excellent troubleshooting and documentation skills; customer-facing experience.
- Fluent in German
