Role: DevOps Engineer

Location: Nearshore Canada (Remote)

Tentative Start Date: 3rd Week of Dec

Must-Have (Required)

Cloud & Infrastructure

  •   Terraform (Infrastructure as Code): module development, basic state management
  •   Linux/Unix administration: production system management, command-line proficiency
  •   Basic container concepts: Docker, container troubleshooting

Development & Automation

  •   GitLab CI/CD: pipeline development, troubleshooting, YAML configuration
  •   Python or Bash scripting: automation, integration, tooling
  •   Infrastructure automation: experience with configuration management tools
  •   AI coding assistants: GitLab Duo, or similar

Working Style

  •   Agile/Scrum experience: sprint-based delivery, stand-ups, retrospectives
  •   Strong written communication: creates clear documentation, works effectively remote
  •   Flexible problem-solver: comfortable with support requests and project work
  •   Self-directed: able to work independently with minimal oversight
  •   Growth-oriented: eager to learn new tools and processes

Nice-to-Have (Desired)

Platform Tools

  •   Kubernetes basics: kubectl, pod troubleshooting, YAML manifests
  •   Ansible: playbook development, role management, automation workflows
  •   AWS services: EC2, VPC, IAM, S3 (hands-on operational experience)

Additional Skills

  •   Secret management: basic operations and secret retrieval
  •   Observability tools: Prometheus, Grafana, OTEL, or similar
  •   Git workflows: branching strategies, merge conflict resolution

Work Environment

  •   Team: Elite platform engineering team, Enterprise Data & Analytics (EDA)
  •   Primary Activities: Engineering support, GitLab pipeline development, infrastructure requests, operational troubleshooting
  •   Schedule: Nearshore preferred (must have overlap until 2-3pm EST)
  •   Duration: 6 months contract
  •   Work Style: Remote, self-directed, documentation-focused, comfortable with ambiguity
