We are hiring a Web Department Technical Lead — a senior, hands-on technical leader who will own the technical direction of our web and custom development work, support our project managers, and act as the bridge between strategy, delivery, and engineering excellence.

About the Role:

This is a critical senior role within Madcraft’s Web Department. As Technical Lead, you will oversee the technical execution of WordPress and custom implementation projects, guide architectural decisions, and ensure best-in-class delivery across all client engagements.

You will work closely with Project Managers, UX/UI designers, digital strategists, and developers to translate business goals into robust, scalable technical solutions. This role sits at the intersection of strategy, technology, data, and delivery, ensuring projects are built not just correctly — but intelligently, efficiently, and with long-term performance in mind.

You will also take ownership of technical standards, hosting infrastructure, development best practices, and team capability, helping Madcraft continue to deliver enterprise-grade solutions at scale.

Key Responsibilities:

Technical Leadership & Architecture

• Act as the senior technical authority across all web and custom implementation projects.
• Lead technical decision-making for WordPress, headless, and custom application builds.
• Ensure solutions are scalable, secure, performant, and aligned with long-term client needs.
• Own technical reviews, architecture validation, and quality standards across the department.

Project Support & Delivery

• Work closely with Project Managers to support delivery planning, risk management, and execution.
• Bridge the gap between strategy, UX, and development, ensuring technical feasibility is aligned with commercial and user goals.
• Identify technical risks, dependencies, or delivery constraints early and resolve them proactively.
• Step in where required to unblock teams and keep projects moving forward.

Development Team Oversight

• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to developers across WordPress and custom builds.
• Establish and enforce development best practices, coding standards, and review processes.
• Support resourcing decisions and capacity planning alongside operations and delivery leads.
• Drive consistency and efficiency across development workflows.

Hosting, Infrastructure & Performance

• Own and oversee hosting architecture, environments, deployments, and uptime.
• Ensure sites and platforms meet performance, security, and compliance requirements.
• Work closely with partners such as WP Engine, BigCommerce, and other platform providers.
• Champion performance optimisation, Core Web Vitals, and modern infrastructure approaches.

Data, Marketing & Performance Alignment

• Ensure technical builds support analytics, tracking, SEO, AEO, CRO, and marketing performance.
• Work closely with the digital team to align development with growth and data strategy.
• Understand how technical decisions impact lead quality, attribution, and conversion.
• Embed performance thinking into every build.

Process, Standards & Continuous Improvement

• Identify opportunities to improve technical processes, tooling, and delivery efficiency.
• Help evolve Madcraft’s technical offering as platforms, AI, and web technologies advance.
• Contribute to pre-sales, scoping, and technical input on complex proposals when required.

About You:

• 8–12+ years’ experience in senior web or technical leadership roles.
• Deep expertise in WordPress, including custom themes, ACF-driven builds, and performance optimisation.
• Strong experience delivering B2B and marketing-focused websites at enterprise level.
• Proven background in custom application development and modern web architectures.
• Solid understanding of hosting, DevOps concepts, and production infrastructure.
• Comfortable working with data, analytics, tracking, and digital marketing requirements.
• Previous agency experience is essential.
• Calm, pragmatic leader who can balance technical depth with commercial awareness.
• Confident operating in a fast-moving, high-growth environment.
