LOCATION🌍

This role is based in Portugal. We have an office hub in Porto available for those who prefer a hybrid model where you can spend time with colleagues in-person. You will need to be able to commute to our office hub as required from time to time.


WHO YOU'LL WORK WITH 👨🏽‍🤝‍👨🏼

As a strategic pillar of our Product Department, the UX/UI and Product Designers play a key role in every step – from initial brainstorming to launch. In addition to creating the best user experience for our web products, we have a broad suite of mobile apps on platforms including iOS and Android, as well as Hostel focused products.

We are looking for a talented, motivated, and analytical individual to join our team as a Mid-level Product Designer. This role will primarily focus on designing and optimizing CRM Emails, with additional responsibilities for mobile app design, within our Social Strategy.

You should be able to see beyond the obvious and execute on a vision for what modern customer experience could become. You'll be working closely with a CRM manager in creating, experimenting and optimising CRM and transactional emails, as well as creating wireframes and user flows, designing, experimenting and testing side by side with other UX Designers, UX Researchers, Copywriters, Product Managers, Engineers, integrated into a cross-functional team responsible for identifying, validating, and delivering new engaging features and optimising in specific product areas, as well as targeting areas of improvement and opportunities to explore.

As the company grows, you will help to foster teams eager to continuously build, measure, and learn. You are at the front line of delivering high-quality experiences that will delight our users.

You will be working alongside our UX team. This is a hands-on role, reporting to the Senior UX Manager.

WHAT YOU'LL DO 👩‍💻

  • Problem Solving. Working with CRM managers, researchers, designers and developers within the Mobile Growth Team, to deliver visual solutions to business problems
  • Identifying success metrics and using data (qual & quant) to drive design decisions
  • Do quantitative and qualitative research where needed to support design decisions
  • Run Usability Testing sessions to validate your designs through an iterative process
  • Capability to propose and adopt best-practices and world-class standards, always with usability as a top priority
  • Working with other designers, copywriters, engineers and product owners to ensure high quality delivery
  • Defining the information architecture, visual interactions and goals for each project
  • Wire-framing and validating the design solutions to prepare for development
  • Building high-fidelity designs and interactable prototypes
  • Always seeking out design system best practices, design patterns across multiple industries and products to constantly evolve Hostelworld products and design language.


WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR 👀

Experience & Qualifications:

  • Relevant experience as a UX/UI, or Product Designer
  • HTML, CSS and JavaScript basic skills, enough to be able to read code and work with html page builders to make adjustments and optimisations.
  • Worked in-house, for a company with great visual culture
  • Experience in start-up/ fast paced environment
  • Proven technical understanding and experience on consuming scalable design systems and/or UI pattern libraries
  • Experience designing for email marketing and native mobile products, as well as using web page builders.
  • Great understanding of visual harmony, information hierarchy and design patterns: You should be able to produce quality and scalable visual designs
  • Ability to write simple and clear design documentation for designers, engineers, product owners and other stakeholders
  • Ability to clearly articulate and explain ideas to other designers, engineers, product managers and other stakeholders
  • Growth mindset: actively identify and drive growth outcomes, while balancing business growth and customer problems
  • Proactive and self-sufficient, capable of performing your functions independently and autonomously
  • Be a creative thinker and don’t be afraid to ask questions.
  • Ability to give and receive feedback
  • Experience in the tech environment. Understand the engineering “language”.
  • Possess strong communication skills across all mediums.
  • Strong English capabilities, both in speaking and writing
  • A portfolio demonstrating your best work and process.

Nice to have:

  • Design or technical degree
  • Experience working with travel, social or ecommerce products
  • Experience working as a freelancer or running your own business
  • Figma and Design Systems experience
  • UX writing basic skills
  • Interest/Experience in motion design, illustration
  • Knowledge of gen-AI tools.
