Role Purpose

In Group Technology Services (GTS), we are looking for an experienced Test Manager with a proven track record in Test Management.

Reporting to the Head of Software Development you will lead teams of test engineers, providing technical and subject matter expertise, mentoring and leadership. You will ensure the output of your team is at a consistently high level and seeks to conform with best in class international test standards by leveraging best industry practices and standard automated tooling.



Responsibilities:

The key responsibilities associated with this role include but are not limited to the following:


Strategic Responsibilities

  • Define and own the organisation-wide Test & Quality Engineering Strategy aligned to technology and product roadmaps. Lead and continuously evolve the end‑to‑end test strategy, governance and quality engineering practices across An Post’s suite of applications.
  • Establish a coherent test architecture spanning functional, integration, end‑to‑end, performance, security, accessibility, resilience and data quality testing.
  • Blend hands‑on technical depth with people leadership: driving productivity gains through intelligent automation, risk‑based testing, shift‑left quality practices, and close, daily collaboration with Software Development and Application Support teams.
  • Ensure that quality is engineered into solutions from concept through production operation, enabling faster, safer delivery while supporting regulatory, security, performance, accessibility and data integrity requirements across a diverse service portfolio.
  • Act as quality advisor to business stakeholders—translating technical risk into business impact and recommending mitigation strategies.


Leadership and relationship management

  • Track record in building and maturing test engineering teams (hiring, coaching, performance management, skills uplift). Inspire, mentor and elevate test engineering talent.
  • Skilled at troubleshooting and resolving cross-team blockers quickly.
  • Vendor management in a blended internal/outsourced test delivery model. Building trust with vendors and holding them accountable to internal standards.
  • Experience collaborating closely with production support / SRE / operations teams to feed operational telemetry back into preventive testing.
  • Demonstrated ability to effectively communicate with senior stakeholders, including project managers, developers, business analysts, and clients, ensuring alignment on testing goals and progress.


Technical Expertise

  • Hands-on familiarity with modern automation & quality tools (e.g. Playwright/Cypress/Selenium), API test tools (Postman/Bruno), performance testing tools (JMeter).
  • A foundational knowledge of Microsoft Azure is desirable, and ideally, candidates will have obtained the AZ-900: Azure Fundamentals certification
  • Demonstrated success integrating test automation into CI/CD pipelines and instituting quality gates.
  • Ownership and maintenance of test environments, identification of test data requirements and engineer automated solutions to generate and maintain test data.
  • Ensure traceability from business requirements / user stories through to test coverage, execution evidence and production validation.


Planning and organisation

  • Experience working in Agile frameworks such as Scrum, SAFe, or Kanban. Proven ability to plan and execute testing phases in sequential Waterfall projects
  • Proven work experience in Atlassian products (Jira/Zephyr Scale or any Test Management tool from Jira)
  • Providing detailed estimates and a breakdown of components to be tested and resources required as part of planning for each project.
  • Ensuring clear and concise status reporting to the project team by utilising effective tools and proactively identifying and addressing areas of concern
  • Supervising business users in User Acceptance Testing (UAT) to ensure their ways of working are consistent with agreed standards.
  • Managing Test estimates, timelines and scope, collaborating closely with the project teams to ensure that system tests are delivered on time & within budget.

Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will have at least 8 years’ experience in software quality engineering/test leadership roles, with at least 3 years managing multi-discipline test teams (automation, functional, non-functional). You are a quality focused self-starter with keen attention to detail who can work independently when required while also consistently adhering to the policies and standards of the organisation. You will hold a degree-level qualification in Computer Science or equivalent discipline and ISTQB or equivalent certification. Project Management Certification (PMP) and/or Agile Certification (or work experience) would be an advantage.
  • You have demonstrable experience of overseeing the activity of creating functional and non-functional test plans, test data, and maintaining test environments and will have previously introduced test automation, Lean processes, and other tooling which reduce waste. You ensure that your output meets the vigorous security, volume, and performance thresholds demanded by enterprise-level applications. Proven delivery of an enterprise-wide test strategy and measurable automation productivity improvements in a complex, integrated environment is required.
  • Experience testing across various platforms including web (CMS platforms), native iOS & Android apps, APIs/microservices, databases, batch processes, payment/financial service flows, and third-party integrations is essential. Experience of working on projects with multiple vendors & distributed test teams is also required. You have a track record of advocating change and introducing and maintaining test strategies that transform ways of working within your team. You have worked with and are at ease with Agile as well as traditional waterfall or hybrid project delivery methods.
  • You must demonstrate multitasking abilities and proven experience managing several projects in parallel while maintaining quality standards across all deliverables. The ability to context switch efficiently between different projects, technologies, and stakeholder groups without compromising attention to detail or delivery timelines is essential for success in this role.
  • A background in regulated or high-integrity domains (finance, payments, government services) including knowledge of PCI DSS, GDPR, data protection considerations, and audit evidence practices is highly desirable.
