The Opportunity
This role offers the opportunity to work with cutting-edge technology in a dynamic and challenging environment. The Principal Network Engineer will be instrumental in shaping the organisation's IT infrastructure, ensuring resilience, and driving innovation.
The Principal Network Engineer will play a pivotal role in developing and supporting advanced data networking solutions across diverse technical platforms and security domains. These solutions form the foundation of the organisation’s corporate operations, mission-critical power system operations, and market functions.
Key Responsibilities
- Design, deploy, monitor and troubleshoot local area networks using a variety of network equipment, software and protocols including layer2/3 switches, spanning tree, fibre, CAT5/6 cable, VLANs, Multicast and network access lists
- Manage Azure cloud networking: Oversee the operation, configuration, and performance of cloud-based network infrastructure.
- Support mission-critical environments: support the reliability of network services for a highly IT-intensive, 24/7 business environment utilising advanced and specialised systems.
- Implement vulnerability management processes and remediation strategies to maintain a secure network posture.
- Manage and maintain networking for on-premises, co-location facilities, and remote Operational Technology (OT) environments.
- Install, configure, and support networking and security equipment from a wide range of industry leading vendors including Cisco
- Interface with multiple departments as the expert networking resource to assess, recommend, project plan and implement network solutions in support of business initiatives
About You
- 8+ years’ of relevant experience supported by a recognised qualification in a relevant technical discipline.
- Expertise in vulnerability management and remediation
- Extensive knowledge of networking, routing, and switching technologies.
- Strong understanding of best practices for network management, control, and monitoring, including network-attached infrastructure.
- Proven experience in:
- Business continuity and disaster recovery for network-related services.
- Developing and maintaining operational procedures and run books, with a focus on automation.
- Demonstrated technical and analytical skills with the ability to operate effectively in complex environments.
- Excellent interpersonal, communication, and time-management skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively within a team
- Expert knowledge of Firewalls, Cisco networking, VPNs, ISE, security best practice frameworks and environments.
- Professional certifications such as CCNP, CCIE, Azure Network Engineer Associate, or equivalent.
- Experience of cloud infrastructures and migration of on-premises infrastructure to cloud service providers and connectivity to cloud service providers
- Experience with network automation tools and scripting (e.g., Python, Ansible, Netbox, OpsManage+).
