Position: Junior Cloud Infrastructure Engineer

This role is centred on supporting members of the cloud engineering team with process improvements and automation while fostering hands-on experience with designing, deploying, and automating technical infrastructure for BDO Global IT. Key responsibilities include assisting colleagues with infrastructure as code, system administration, and operations across the application portfolio, while also helping manage applications to maintain data integrity, availability, performance, recoverability, and security in line with established policies and service levels.

Key accountabilities:

Performance and progress in the following areas will be the priorities for this position:

• Assist in administration of core cloud platform services across a variety of Microsoft cloud (Azure) technologies.
• Automation of re-occurring tasks and processes related to the Applications and Cloud Infrastructure, using tools such as Azure Automation and PowerShell.
• Standardisation and documentation of common procedures that cannot be easily automated, for execution by other resources or teams.
• Assisting in the deployment of pipelines and creating infrastructure as code templates to support them.
• Working to resolve tickets as they are escalated to our team. Communicating effectively with both internal and external resources via the helpdesk system, email, voice and Teams. Operating in accordance with ITSM standards.
• Provide customer support in addition to general duties and contribution to team objectives.
• Participate in the projects that change existing services, establish new services or retire services from an operational implementation and support perspective with guidance from the senior engineers.

Qualifications and experience

• 4+ years of commercial IT experience in enterprise infrastructure implementation and administration.
• Intermediate to advanced PowerShell knowledge.
• 4+ years of commercial IT experience in enterprise infrastructure implementation and administration.
• Intermediate to advanced PowerShell knowledge.
• 2+ years of experience with intermediate level knowledge in the following technologies:

Azure Automation.

Azure PaaS infrastructure, such as Azure apps, Azure storage, Key Vault, Azure SQL Failover groups, Azure Traffic Manager.

• Tenant, subscription, and resource management in Azure.
• Microsoft Entra ID.
• Exposure to Bicep / Terraform templates would be an advantage.
• Exposure to deployment pipelines in Azure DevOps and/or Octopus Deploy would be an advantage.
• Experience working with custom internally developed applications and interacting with development teams preferred.
• Knowledge of ITIL, or other IT Service Management methodology framework, and 3+ years of experience working in an environment with:
• Adherence to formal change management processes.
• Delivery of services and support to defined service levels.
• Experience using IT Service Management systems.
• Effectively demonstrates teamwork, problem solving, initiative and integrity.
• Strong communication skills, both interpersonal and written.
• Able to properly organise and structure workloads and time management.

This role requires a strong working relationship with both internal and external resources:

• BDO Global IT leadership team.
• BDO Global IT development teams.
• BDO Global IT security team.

• Member firms (our customers).
