Note: The primary pay rate is based on T4 classification; however, we will also consider applications from candidates interested in an INC classification, where applicable.
Description
The Junior Network Designer in this role will support the infrastructure team. This role is ideal for a networking professional with 1 to 3 years of experience who is ready to move from day-to-day troubleshooting into the design and implementation lifecycle. The candidate in this role will play a critical role in bringing architectural visions to life by translating senior-level designs into precise configurations, maintaining our "source of truth" documentation, and supporting network cutovers. You will work under the mentorship of Senior Designers to ensure our projects are delivered accurately and on schedule.
Key Responsibilities
- Configuration Generation: Utilize standardized templates to create device configurations for routers, switches, and firewalls based on designs provided by Senior Designers.
- Technical Documentation: Create and update detailed network diagrams in Microsoft Visio, including logical topologies, physical rack elevations, and floor plans.
- NMS Maintenance: Update Network Management Systems (NMS) and monitoring tools to ensure all new assets are correctly tracked, labeled, and monitored.
- Project Implementation: Provide hands-on support during network cutovers and migrations, ensuring the design is implemented correctly and testing connectivity post-change.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate with Project Managers to provide status updates and work with other business units to ensure seamless integration. Act as a technical liaison for Project Managers and other business units to ensure networking requirements are met on time and standards are followed.
- Inventory Management: Maintain accurate records of IP address assignments (IPAM) and port allocations.
- Precision: Ability to follow complex templates and design rules.
- Communication: Comfortable explaining technical updates to Project Managers and non-technical stakeholders.
- Adaptability: Ready to transition between documentation tasks and active hardware deployments.
- 1-3 years of experience in a Junior Network Designer, Network Technician, or Network Operations Center (NOC) role.
- Proven experience with Cisco IOS, or similar CLI environments.
- Strong understanding of switching (VLANs, STP) and routing fundamentals.
- Hands-on experience with Microsoft Visio for technical drafting.
- Familiarity with formal change control processes and the ability to work during scheduled maintenance windows.
- Strong grasp of the OSI model, IP subnetting, VLANs, and basic protocols like OSPF, EIGRP and Spanning Tree Protocol (STP).
- Basic experience with Microsoft Visio or similar diagramming software.
- Familiarity with Command Line Interfaces (CLI), specifically Cisco IOS or similar.
- Preferred (But Not Required)
- Experience with a Network Management System (e.g., SolarWinds, Cisco ISE, Palo Alto Panorama, infoblox etc).
- Basic understanding of Python or scripting for configuration automation.
- Education and Skills
- Degree/Diploma in IT, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
- Cisco Certified Network Associate (CCNA) or higher-level (preferred but not required)
- Ability to follow strict templates and naming conventions without deviation.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills for collaborating with Project Managers and non-technical staff.
- Willingness to participate in occasional after-hours cutovers or deployment windows.
