About The Role
We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Senior Embedded Android Developer to join our client's dynamic software engineering team. This role offers an exciting opportunity to work on cutting-edge technology in a fast-scaling, innovative environment. You will be responsible for developing and enhancing Android functionality tailored for embedded devices, contributing to a highly sophisticated codebase. The position involves close collaboration with cross-functional teams, including UX designers, product managers, and test engineers, to deliver high-quality solutions that impact millions of users worldwide. The role is hybrid, based in Oxford, with a flexible work schedule of 23 days in the office and 23 days remote, fostering a healthy work-life balance.
Qualifications
The ideal candidate will possess a blend of technical expertise and practical experience, including:
- Proven experience in developing stable Android applications specifically for embedded devices, not limited to mobile applications.
- Strong proficiency in Java for Android development, including familiarity with associated tools and testing frameworks.
- Expertise in UI design and implementation, ensuring user-friendly and efficient interfaces.
- Experience with API integration to enable seamless communication between software components.
- Ability to produce detailed requirements, technical specifications, and design documentation.
- Excellent communication skills, capable of explaining complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Knowledge of Android Open Source Project (AOSP).
- Experience with Android Kiosk mode and custom controls.
- Background in safety-critical software development, such as automotive, aerospace, or medical devices.
- Proficiency with Android Studio and familiarity with architectural patterns like MVC, MVP, and MVVM.
- Experience with Appium, bootloaders, TDD, and cybersecurity best practices.
- Knowledge of cloud or IoT development environments.
The Senior Embedded Android Developer will be responsible for:
- Designing, developing, and maintaining Android applications tailored for embedded devices, ensuring stability and performance.
- Collaborating closely with UX designers, product managers, and test engineers to deliver high-quality features aligned with project goals.
- Implementing UI components and ensuring a consistent, intuitive user experience.
- Integrating third-party APIs and services to enhance application functionality.
- Producing comprehensive technical documentation, including requirements, design specifications, and testing plans.
- Participating in agile development processes, including daily stand-ups and bi-weekly sprints, to ensure timely delivery of features.
- Conducting peer code reviews to maintain code quality, security, and adherence to best practices.
- Staying updated with the latest Android development trends, security standards, and embedded systems technologies.
