Our team is experienced in various aspects of computational biology: statistics, bioinformatics, machine learning, biomedicine and the best practices of scientific visualisation, coming from human uncovering human disease mechanisms to environmental metagenomics and machine learning models. At VUGENE, we ensure transparent workflows, reproducible results, continuous code integration, and analytical result enhancements. We work in a collaborative manner with international researchers, currently across the USA and Europe, offering our expertise from project inception, grant writing to completion and publications. Information about the position

As a Senior Bioinformatician at VUGENE, you will be a key contributor to a variety of research and client projects in biotechnology, healthcare, and academia. You’ll work with multi-omics datasets and support researchers as well as team members in generating meaningful biological insights. You will develop and apply data analysis workflows, contribute to reporting and scientific interpretation, and continue building your technical and project execution skills.

This role is ideal for candidates with 4+ years (post-master degree) of industry or academic experience in bioinformatics who are looking to grow and share their knowledge in a collaborative and multidisciplinary environment.


The position is available in Lithuania (Vilnius or Kaunas).


In this position, you’ll:

  • Contribute to diverse topics projects involving transcriptomics (bulk and single-cell), methylation profiling, metabolomics, proteomics, genomics/metagenomics, custom projects as well as multiomics integration
  • Apply, improve or develop bioinformatics pipelines using mainly R, Python, and open-source tools
  • Collaborate with our team, international clients and internal stakeholders to support data interpretation and visualisation
  • Participate in scientific reporting and contribute to grant proposals and publications
  • Will have needed computational resources of scalable cloud-based computing platforms (Google Cloud or similar)
  • Learn from colleagues and participate in peer code reviews and internal knowledge sharing and building new knowledge
  • Continuously expand your understanding of biology and data science (especially statistics) best practices




About You

  • Master’s or PhD degree in Bioinformatics, Computational Biology, or a related field
  • 4+ years of experience (PhD experience counts) in bioinformatics (or related field), either in academia or industry
  • Comfortable with R and/or Python for data analysis and scripting
  • Great knowledge of best programming practices and bioinformatics tools and databases, version control (Git), workflow management systems (e.g. Snakemake), and Unix-based environments
  • Experience with some omics data analysis (e.g. genomics, transcriptomics, metabolomics, proteomics, epigenomics) and best visualization practices
  • Good statistical understanding of data analysis. Machine learning experience would be advantageous.
  • Deep understanding of molecular biology and genetics is desirable 
  • Organized, collaborative, and eager lead and mentor, share your knowledge with the team. Good communication skills.
  • Eagerness to have up to date knowledge of methodology and latest developments in the field
  • Ambition to work on multiple and diverse range of projects

Hybrid Work

Salary

The salary range for this position is 3,500 - 4,700 EUR gross per month (~42,000 - 56,400 annually) depending on your experience.
