Role Profile: I & C Engineer

This is a greenfield CCGT project to be constructed with a net power capacity of 2,400 MW, together with its ancillary equipment, associated infrastructure and facilities. The Project comprises the Plant and Associated Electrical Special Facilities (ESF). The Plant will be located inland at a site situated approximately 50 km north-east of the City of Abu Dhabi.

This role offers a unique opportunity to engage in the full lifecycle of the project, from design and engineering to construction and operation, all within a dynamic and innovative environment. This project promises stability and long-term impact."

Project Manager

Overview

The I&C Engineer will be responsible for overseeing and managing various aspects of instrumentation and control systems in power projects. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in the planning, design, installation, and maintenance of I&C systems, ensuring compliance with industry standards, regulations, and project specifications.

Your Job Functions (Duties & Responsibilities)

Supervision & Oversight:

  • Monitor and supervise all I&C works executed by the EPC contractor and their subcontractors
  • Ensure adherence to project specifications, national and international standards (e.g., IEC, ISA), and HSE regulations
  • Review and approve I&C installation and commissioning procedures
  • Ensure alignment of I&C activities with project objectives and timelines

Technical Review & Assurance:

  • Participate in design reviews, HAZOPs, control philosophy reviews, and FATs (Factory Acceptance Tests)
  • Review and comment on I&C drawings, instrument datasheets, loop diagrams, I/O lists, and control logic documents

Interface Management:

  • Coordinate with other engineering disciplines, especially electrical and mechanical, to resolve interface issues
  • Serve as the focal point for I&C-related technical queries and non-conformance issues

Commissioning Support:

  • Oversee pre-commissioning and commissioning of I&C systems including loop checks, calibration, and signal verifications
  • Verify compliance of DCS/SCADA systems and ensure proper integration with plant systems

Reporting & Documentation:

  • Maintain accurate records of site activities, inspections, deviations, and resolutions
  • Prepare weekly progress reports highlighting key risks, issues, and achievements

Compliance & Quality:

  • Ensure traceability and compliance with QA/QC standards
  • Support audits, inspections, and punch listing for I&C scope
  • Accept individual responsibility for their own safe behavior as well as share responsibility with their fellow workers and line supervision to look out for their own as well as their co-workers safety
  • Comply with and constructively participate in the Project HSSE activities
  • Work in a safe manner at all times and contribute to the implementation of the ‘Incident and Injury Free' philosophy
  • Stop any unsafe act/behavior observed and report it to their line supervisor/manager
  • Take reasonable care for the safety of themselves and other personnel who are at the workplace, and who may be affected by any acts or omissions on their part
  • Co-operate with their employer in ensuring that their workplace is as safe and healthy as is reasonably practical
  • Report any hazard or potential hazard in the workplace or any incident, personal injury, accident or near miss that may have occurred during the course of work to the HSSE staff immediately
  • Correctly use, store and maintain PPE issued to them for protection against workplace hazards
  • Follow all verbal or written safe work procedures, practices and directions
  • Observe all warning signs and notices
  • Attend toolbox meetings and all other HSSE meetings as required
  • Attend all scheduled relevant HSSE trainings
  • Comply with work instructions and permit requirements

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Instrumentation and Control Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related field
  • Proven experience (5-7 years) as an I&C Engineer, in Power projects
  • Combined Cycle experience is a must.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) license is highly desirable
  • Strong knowledge of instrumentation and control principles, practices, and standards
  • Proficiency in I&C design software and computer-aided design (CAD) tools
  • Excellent project management and communication skills
  • Ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team
