About The Role

We are seeking a highly skilled Software Engineer, Security Observability, to join our Security team. In this role, you will be instrumental in designing and building secure, scalable systems that enhance our security observability infrastructure. Your expertise will enable the collection, analysis, and visualization of security data, supporting proactive threat detection and incident response. You will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams, including Detection & Response (D&R), to develop robust software solutions that reduce security risks and improve forensic capabilities. This position offers flexibility for remote work or the possibility of relocation assistance to our offices in San Francisco, Seattle, or New York City.

Key responsibilities include designing scalable data pipelines, maintaining high system reliability, and contributing to forensic investigations and compliance efforts. You will play a vital role in strengthening OpenAI’s security posture by providing comprehensive visibility into security events and anomalies across our infrastructure.

Qualifications

  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Python, Golang, or similar.
  • Experience with infrastructure as code tools like Terraform.
  • Hands-on experience working with cloud platforms, particularly Azure.
  • Strong background in building and maintaining data pipelines for security-related use cases.
  • Knowledge of security data collection, analysis, and forensic investigation techniques.
  • Experience collaborating with security and engineering teams to develop scalable solutions.
  • Proactive problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Familiarity with site reliability engineering (SRE) practices is a plus.
  • Background in database management and data engineering is desirable.
  • Ability to adapt across various technical domains and work effectively in a dynamic environment.

Responsibilities

  • Design and develop scalable, secure software systems that facilitate comprehensive security observability across OpenAI’s infrastructure.
  • Build and maintain data pipelines that centralize security-relevant data from diverse sources, ensuring data integrity and accessibility.
  • Enhance the resilience and reliability of data systems to guarantee high platform availability and performance.
  • Collaborate with Detection & Response and other security teams to identify vulnerabilities and implement security improvements.
  • Support forensic investigations by engineering data solutions that enable detailed security analysis.
  • Contribute to compliance efforts by ensuring security data collection and management meet regulatory standards.
  • Proactively identify opportunities to improve security data visibility and forensic capabilities.
  • Participate in cross-functional projects to develop innovative security monitoring and detection tools.
