Biosecurity Queensland plays a vital role in securing the state's agricultural prosperity and preserving and protecting the health of our environment and economy. We are dedicated to safeguarding both human and animal health by preventing and mitigating plant and animal pests and diseases. We work tirelessly to uphold a high level of animal welfare standards and maintain access to interstate markets, critical for Queensland's thriving primary industries. Biosecurity Queensland monitors and regulates the application of agricultural and veterinary chemicals, ensuring they are used safely and in compliance with legislation. With a commitment to developing capabilities and preparedness, we are at the forefront of protecting Queensland against biosecurity risks.
Invasive Plants and Animals (IPA) significantly affect the environment, agricultural production, infrastructure, human health and our way of life in general. The IPA program directs, facilitates and delivers strategic and targeted action to reduce the impact of invasive species in Queensland.

As a Science Technician, You Will
- Work independently, but under direction to conduct laboratory, quarantine, field-based and scientific technical tasks that support a team undertaking weed biological control research.
- Accurately perform scientific tasks in accordance with relevant standard operating procedures (SOPs), protocols or methodologies to support the generation of valid data and ongoing compliance with relevant quality standards, laboratory accreditations, workplace health and safety requirements and legislative obligations.
- Manage own work priorities to ensure assigned tasks are undertaken efficiently and effectively to meet project/team aims and deliverables.
- It is a mandatory requirement for a technical officer to possess an Australian Diploma or Advanced Diploma in a relevant field or equivalent.
- A current “C” class drivers' licence.
- Diploma qualification in a relevant discipline: entomology, plant science, agricultural science, or environmental science.
