Our customers walk out with new items every time they visit any of our stores.

Role Purpose:

The Business Intelligence Lead will own, standardize, and operate the entire BI ecosystem. The current environment includes multiple dashboards and datasets built over time. This role will clean up, consolidate, and formalize the BI platform, establish department-level metric definitions, and create a central BI repository that acts as the single source of truth for analytics. You will own the semantic layer, business formulas, refresh strategy, performance optimization, and governance across BigQuery and Power BI.

Key Responsibilities:

BI Platform Ownership & Rationalization

  • Take ownership of all existing Power BI dashboards, datasets, and BigQuery analytics tables.
  • Identify duplication, inconsistencies, and unused assets; consolidate into a clear, maintainable BI architecture.
  • Define and enforce BI standards for modeling, DAX, SQL, naming, and documentation.
  • Own end-to-end BI change management: intake, prioritization, delivery, and release.

Department & Function-Level Metrics (Core Ownership)

  • Own and define department / function-specific formulas and KPIs, including but not limited to:-
  • Sales, Planning & Merchandising
  • Inventory & Supply Chain
  • Finance
  • Stores & Operations
  • Digital / E-commerce
  • Partner with business stakeholders to formalize metric definitions, calculation logic, and grain.
  • Resolve metric conflicts and ensure one approved definition per KPI, reused across all reports.
  • Implement these metrics consistently in the semantic layer (BigQuery and Power BI).

Semantic Layer & BI Repository

  • Design and maintain the semantic layer across:
  • BigQuery (analytics-ready fact and dimension tables, semantic views, marts)
  • Power BI tabular models (enterprise semantic datasets)
  • Establish and maintain a central BI repository, including:
  • Metric definitions and formulas
  • Dataset and model documentation
  • Ownership and certification status
  • Refresh logic and dependencies
  • Ensure all reports consume certified datasets rather than ad-hoc models.

BigQuery Design, Querying & Optimization

  • Develop and optimize advanced SQL for analytics use cases.
  • Design BigQuery tables with partitioning, clustering, and cost-efficient patterns.
  • Refactor inefficient queries and datasets to improve performance and reduce cost.
  • Ensure BigQuery models are designed specifically for BI consumption, not just storage.

Power BI Modeling, Refresh & Performance

  • Build and maintain enterprise Power BI datasets using best-practice tabular modeling.
  • Implement a robust refresh strategy:
  • Incremental refresh where applicable
  • Clear scheduling and dependency management
  • Monitoring and failure recovery
  • Use Tabular Editor for model management (calculation groups, best-practice analyzer).
  • Optimize DAX and model design for large datasets (hundreds of millions to billions of rows).

Governance, Quality & Enablement

  • Implement security and governance: RLS/OLS, dataset certification, access controls.
  • Define data quality expectations and validate metrics with stakeholders.
  • Document models, metrics, and usage guidelines for self-service consumption.
  • Act as the authoritative owner of BI logic, not just a report builder.

Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, Data Analytics, Engineering, or a related field.
  • 8+ years in BI / Analytics roles with end-to-end ownership.
  • Expert-level Power BI experience (DAX, modeling, service operations).
  • Strong BigQuery SQL skills, including performance tuning and optimization.
  • Proven experience owning and governing business metrics and formulas.
  • Experience creating and managing a metrics or BI repository.
  • Comfortable cleaning up and stabilizing complex, inherited BI environments.
  • Retail domain experience (sales, inventory, margin, promotions).
  • Tabular Editor, DAX Studio.
  • dbt or analytics engineering exposure.
  • Experience implementing metric catalogs or semantic documentation tools.
