The Cabinet and Parliament Services Team is located within the Ministerial and Executive Services Branch of the Office of the Director-General in the Department of the Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation (DETSI) to provide the highest quality support to the Director-General and Office of the Minister for the Environment and Tourism and Minister for Science and Innovation.

This is an opportunity to work within a team that provides high level specialist support to the Minister and Director-General on the department's complex Cabinet, Parliamentary and Legislative agendas. This position reports to the Cabinet, Legislation and Liaison Officer in coordinating and critically reviewing a wide range of Executive Government material across the department's portfolio responsibilities.

As the Principal Cabinet and Parliamentary Officer (A06), you will:

  • Assist the CLLO in coordinating and managing the functions of the CLLO Office through the provision of timely and expert specialist advice, training and support on Cabinet procedures and processes as well as providing high-level support of activities for Parliamentary and Executive Council business.
  • Review and critically evaluate high-volume Cabinet material (including Discussion Papers), Policy Submissions, Significant Appointment material, Cabinet Committee material, briefing notes to ensure quality, relevance and appropriateness and that such documents have been developed in accordance with government guidelines.
  • Coordinate activities associated with the weekly Cabinet submission review and briefing process as well as Cabinet/Cabinet Budget Review Committee decision implementation reporting and whole of Government and departmental reporting processes associated with executive documents.
  • Coordinate and critically examine Executive Government documentation (e.g. Possible Parliamentary Questions, responses to Questions on Notice, feedback on Discussion Papers, Cabinet briefing material) to ensure they adhere to Government Handbook requirements.
  • Maintain close liaison with Senior Executives and key business group contacts within the department to exchange feedback and provide guidance on the preparation of relevant documents.
  • Maintaining positive liaison relationships and negotiate with Minister's Office, Departmental senior executives, central government agencies and officers of other Government departments about current and future issues relating to the Minister's Cabinet and Executive Council business and the Minister's legislative program so that those agencies can plan their business in advance.
  • Ensure the secure storage, handling and dissemination of Cabinet documents within DE TSI in compliance with the Governing Queensland Suite, particularly the Cabinet Handbook and relevant guidelines.
  • Continuously developing and maintaining working knowledge of Government policies, procedures and processes when preparing Cabinet and Parliamentary business.
  • Develop and implement strategies and systems to ensure that appropriate prioritisation, time management, customer focus, and quality assurance occurs within the Cabinet and Parliamentary Services team.
  • Other suitable duties, consistent with the duties and responsibilities of the position as directed by the supervisor or nominated delegate.
  • Contribute to the ongoing improvement of service delivery of the team.

Qualifications

There are no mandatory qualifications required for this role. However, previous experience in a similar role would be highly regarded.
