AI application Engineer


We are looking for an AI Application Engineer to join our AI team in Lausanne.

You will contribute to the development and maintenance of AI-powered applications used across the organization, starting with developing and maintaining on-prem LLM-based conversational tools.

 

In this role, you will work at the intersection of AI engineering, software development, and internal user enablement. You will build and improve AI workflows, integrate data sources, implement retrieval pipelines, design agent capabilities, and help drive adoption across teams and regions.

 

This position is ideal for someone who enjoys building production-ready AI solutions, collaborating with diverse stakeholders, and having real impact on how AI is used across a company.

 

Your role

  • Enhance and maintain our internal LLM chatbot application.
  • Develop and optimize RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation) pipelines.
  • Integrate new data sources, including interfacing via MCP.
  • Build agent-style workflows using Python and APIs (tool calling, orchestration).
  • Operate and update OpenWebUI (configuration, plugins, troubleshooting).
  • Ensure reliability through unit tests, integration tests, and structured logging.
  • Collaborate with platform/infra engineers for deployments to dev, test, pre-prod, and prod.
  • Train employees internationally on how to use AI tools effectively.
  • Animate and coordinate our internal “AI Champions” community.
  • Collect feedback, understand needs, and help prioritize feature requests.
  • Support teams in identifying opportunities to use AI in their workflows.


Your profile

  • Master’s degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning Engineering or related field.
  • 2–3 years of experience in AI engineering, ML engineering, or software engineering with AI components.
  • Strong proficiency in Python. Javascript is a plus. Experience with React is also a plus.
  • Hands-on experience with RAG pipelines (embeddings, retrieval, vector storage).
  • Experience integrating systems via APIs and building backend logic.
  • Experience with agent frameworks (LangChain, LlamaIndex, AutoGen, etc.).
  • Familiarity with OpenWebUI or similar front-ends for LLMs.
  • Exposure to MCP integrations.
  • Solid engineering fundamentals: Git / version control, Unit & integration testing, Logging, error handling, debugging & Familiarity with software release pipelines and environment promotion
  • Comfortable in Linux and containerized environments (e.g., Docker). High level understanding of Kubernetes is a plus.
  • Excellent communication skills, able to explain AI tools to non-technical audiences.
  • Willingness to travel internationally up to 20%.
  • Prior experience in user training or internal enablement.
