Role Description

Step into a role where your ideas shape unforgettable experiences. As Manager Product Development, you will be the architect behind Viking’s Shore Excursions, Extensions, and Itineraries—curating experiences that inspire and elevate the guest’s journey. As an integral part of the Land Operations Team in Basel, you will transform vision into reality, blending innovation, cultural insight, and operational excellence. The Manager Product development reports to the Director Product Development Rivers in Basel.

Key Responsibilities

  • Create & Innovate: Imagine, design, and launch new excursions, itineraries, and extensions that exceed our guests expectations.
  • Explore & Evaluate: Travel to destinations, conduct site inspections, and translate opportunities into tangible results
  • Shape Strategy: Assess feasibility, analyze existing product, balance offerings, and ensure Viking stays ahead of industry trends.
  • Collaborate & Inspire: Work hand-in-hand with product managers, cost managers, and vendors to craft seamless land experiences.
  • Tell the Story: Provide compelling briefs and partner with the copy team and marketing to bring the Shore experiences to life.
  • Drive Excellence: Continuously refine existing products, monitor competition, and champion quality and cost at every step.

Key Qualifications

  • Proven Experience in River Cruise Industry

Previous experience with a river cruise line or in a similar travel/hospitality environment is highly preferred. Affinity with tour operation.

  • Geographical knowledge

Regional knowledge of rivers and ports and ability to identify sites and experience that make a great product for our guests.

  • Innovative Mindset & Creative Problem-Solving

Ability to develop fresh ideas and solutions that enhance guest experience. Operational efficiency and ability to implement the new product from scratch.

  • Strong Analytical Skills

Comfortable with data-driven decision-making, trend analysis, and performance evaluation. Organizational skills with attention to detail.

  • Technology-Savvy

Familiarity with emerging technologies and digital tools relevant to product development and guest engagement.

  • Critical Thinker & Strategic Planner

Capable of assessing complex situations, identifying opportunities, and implementing effective strategies. Self-starter, hands on attitude. Ability to work independently, and prioritize allocation of time across multiple projects to meet deadlines.

  • Results-Oriented & Success-Driven

Demonstrated ability to deliver projects on time and within budget, with measurable impact.

  • Leadership & Collaboration

Skilled at leading cross-functional teams, fostering collaboration, and driving alignment across departments.

  • Excellent Communication Skills

Ability to articulate ideas clearly and influence stakeholders at all levels. Excellent communication skills in English; additional languages are a plus.

  • Adaptability & “Can-Do” Attitude

Thrives in a fast-paced environment, embraces challenges, and maintains a positive, solution-focused approach. Ability to travel up to 50% of the time. Driving license is a plus.
