Role Overview:

We’re looking for a passionate, detail-oriented Backend Developer Intern with a strong interest in API development, system integration, and backend architecture.

This is a remote, hands-on role where you will work closely with experienced developers to design, implement, and maintain backend services that support our AR platforms.

While this is initially unpaid, exceptional performance may lead to a paid position after the internship.

What You’ll Do:

• Own and evolve core backend services powering our AR platform
• Design and build scalable REST APIs using Node.js and Express.js
• Architect and optimize PostgreSQL databases for performance and reliability
• Integrate backend systems with clients and ML pipelines
• Make pragmatic architecture decisions that balance speed and scalability
• Build, review, and maintain clean, production-ready code
• Lead backend best practices, mentor teammates, and raise the engineering bar
• Work closely with founders, product, and AR teams to ship features fast
• Help shape cloud infrastructure and deployments on AWS

Required Skills:

• Strong hands-on experience with Node.js, Express.js, JavaScript, and TypeScript
• Deep understanding of PostgreSQL, schema design, and performance tuning
• Experience running production systems on AWS
• Comfort working in fast-moving, ambiguous environments
• Strong Git workflow experience (Bitbucket or similar)
• Solid understanding of backend security and system reliability
• Ability to take ownership, make decisions, and execute independently
• Bonus: Experience with Sequelize, microservices, or ML/AR system integration
