Job Title: Junior Network Designer

Location: Calgary, AB

Rotation: Mon-Fri

Description:

NES Fircroft is supporting a client seeking a Junior Network Designer to join their infrastructure team. This role is suited for a networking professional with 1–3 years of experience looking to transition from operational support into network design and implementation.

Working under Senior Network Designers, you will help translate network designs into configurations, maintain technical documentation, and support network cutovers to ensure accurate and timely project delivery.

Key Responsibilities:

• Generate router, switch, and firewall configurations using standardized templates
• Create and update network diagrams (logical, physical, rack layouts) using Microsoft Visio
• Maintain NMS, monitoring tools, IPAM, and port allocation records
• Support network cutovers, migrations, and post-change testing
• Collaborate with Project Managers and cross-functional teams to meet project timelines

Qualifications:

• 1–3 years of experience in a Network Designer, Technician, or NOC role
• Experience with Cisco IOS or similar CLI environments
• Solid understanding of switching, routing, VLANs, IP subnetting, and OSI model
• Proficiency with Microsoft Visio or similar diagramming tools
• Familiarity with change management processes
• Diploma/Degree in IT or equivalent experience; CCNA preferred
• Willingness to support occasional after-hours cutovers

Preferred:

• Experience with NMS tools (e.g., SolarWinds, Infoblox, Cisco ISE, Palo Alto Panorama)
• Basic scripting or automation knowledge
