About the Role
As a PhD student, you will join the RAPTORplus MSCA Doctoral Network, which focuses on advancing online adaptive particle therapy (OAPT).
Your work will focus on full-stack software development and research, including algorithm design for adaptive workflows, database management, and frontend development for clinical applications. You will collaborate with leading research institutions and industry partners across Europe, participate in structured training activities, and complete secondments abroad.
This position offers a unique opportunity to apply full-stack development skills in a research context that directly impacts patient care.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities
- Participate in the development of a software solution for adaptive particle therapy workflows.
- Research and apply secure, high-performance computing methods for medical applications.
- Work on full-stack development tasks, including backend logic, database management, and frontend interfaces.
- Participate in Consortium training activities and secondment projects:
- 1-month secondment at UNAV (University of Navarra) in Spain to understand clinic workflow and role of components in standard PT.
- 2-month secondment at HB (Helse Bergen HF) in Norway for handling interfaces of OAPT-relevant components in a latest generation PT facility.
- 4-month secondment at PSI (Paul Scherrer Institute) in Switzerland for evaluation of self-developed methods in a clinical environment.
- Attend topical workshops.
- Collaborate with other PhD students and Cosylab engineers, benefiting from mentorship and knowledge sharing.
Required Qualifications and Skills
- Possession of a Master's degree (or equivalent) in Mathematics, Physics, Electrical Engineering, Computer Science, or a related field.
- Some programming skills.
- Solid understanding of software design, programming techniques, relational databases (PostgreSQL), ORM, and computer science fundamentals.
- Familiarity with source control (Git), CI/CD, code analysis, and other modern programming practices.
- Proficiency in spoken and written English.
- Strong communication skills and an open mind for discussion and team collaboration.
Bonus points if you have:
- Experience in C# and WPF (or similar desktop frameworks) using the MVVM pattern.
- Experience in machine learning.

- Employment contract for a definite period of 36 months, for the duration of the RAPTORplus project, with the possibility of extension. The PhD student will be employed at Cosylab and registered in the PhD program at the Faculty of Computer and Information Science of the University of Ljubljana (UL).
