About The Role

We are seeking a talented Full-Stack Developer to join our Visualization team at Waymo. In this role, you will play a critical part in developing and optimizing the platform that provides advanced visual debugging tools for our autonomous driving systems. Your work will enable engineers, researchers, and operators to visualize complex data streams, onboard logs, and simulation outputs in a high-performance, scalable environment. You will be responsible for designing and building full-stack features that facilitate custom visualizations, creating performant user interfaces using modern web technologies, and scaling backend systems to handle diverse and massive datasets. Additionally, you will define APIs and developer tools that empower cross-functional teams to contribute seamlessly to our shared visualization ecosystem. This position offers an exciting opportunity to impact the development of autonomous vehicle technology by building tools that enhance debugging, validation, and system understanding across the company.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
  • 3+ years of professional full-stack development experience
  • Proficiency in backend programming languages such as C++, Java/Kotlin, Go, or Python
  • Strong experience with frontend web development using TypeScript/JavaScript, HTML, CSS
  • Hands-on experience with modern web frameworks like React, Angular, or Vue
  • Familiarity with data visualization libraries such as d3, Plotly.js, or Vega
  • Demonstrated ability to design scalable, high-performance, and reliable web applications
  • Excellent communication skills and ability to collaborate effectively with diverse engineering teams

Responsibilities

  • Design and optimize full-stack features that enable other teams to create custom visualizations within the platform
  • Develop and maintain rich, interactive user interfaces utilizing modern web technologies (TypeScript, Angular, WebGL, Three.js)
  • Scale backend systems and data pipelines to ensure reliability, performance, and compatibility with diverse data types
  • Define and maintain APIs and developer tools to support cross-team integration and feature development
  • Create visualization libraries that standardize the rendering of AI/ML outputs across the organization
  • Develop features to trace and analyze behavior across onboard vehicle software and offboard analysis pipelines
  • Work closely with engineering teams to troubleshoot issues, validate system performance, and improve visualization capabilities
