About The Role

Docker is seeking a highly skilled Staff Software Engineer specializing in Data Engineering to join its dynamic Data Engineering team. In this pivotal role, you will lead the design, development, and implementation of scalable data systems that underpin analytics and data-driven decision-making across the organization. As a senior technical leader, you will influence the technical strategy, establish best practices, and mentor engineering teams to ensure the robustness, efficiency, and security of Docker’s data infrastructure. This role requires a combination of hands-on technical expertise and strategic thinking, working closely with cross-functional teams—including Product, Engineering, Sales, Marketing, Finance, and Executive leadership—to deliver data solutions that support business growth and operational excellence. Your contributions will directly impact Docker’s ability to serve millions of developers and thousands of enterprise customers worldwide, enabling innovative analytics, machine learning, and operational insights.

Qualifications

  • 6+ years of software engineering experience with at least 3 years focused on data engineering and analytics systems
  • Expert-level proficiency with Snowflake, including advanced SQL, performance tuning, and cost management
  • Deep experience with DBT for data modeling, transformation, and testing at large scale
  • Strong expertise with Apache Airflow for workflow orchestration and pipeline management
  • Hands-on experience with modern BI tools such as Sigma or similar platforms
  • Extensive AWS experience, including S3, Redshift, EMR, Glue, Lambda, and Kinesis
  • Proficiency in Python, SQL, and other relevant programming languages for data engineering
  • Solid understanding of data warehousing concepts, dimensional modeling, and analytics architecture
  • Experience designing and implementing large-scale distributed data systems
  • Knowledge of data governance, security frameworks, and compliance standards such as GDPR and CCPA
  • Proven leadership skills in influencing technical decisions and mentoring engineers
  • Excellent communication skills to effectively collaborate with cross-functional teams and stakeholders
  • Experience with infrastructure-as-code, CI/CD practices, and cloud-native development

Responsibilities

  • Define and drive the technical strategy for Docker’s data platform architecture, setting a long-term vision for scalable and reliable data systems
  • Lead the design and implementation of high-performance, scalable data infrastructure utilizing Snowflake, AWS, Airflow, DBT, and Sigma
  • Architect comprehensive end-to-end data pipelines supporting both real-time and batch analytics across various products
  • Make informed technical decisions regarding data platform technologies, architectural patterns, and best practices
  • Establish standards for data quality, testing, monitoring, and operational excellence to ensure system reliability
  • Design and develop robust data systems capable of processing petabytes of data and supporting millions of user interactions
  • Implement complex data transformations and models to facilitate analytics and business intelligence initiatives
  • Develop and optimize data orchestration workflows and pipelines using Apache Airflow
  • Enhance Snowflake performance and cost efficiency while maintaining system reliability
  • Create data APIs and services to enable self-service analytics and system integrations
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to gather requirements and translate them into effective technical solutions
  • Support advanced analytics, machine learning, and reporting capabilities by partnering with Data Scientists and Analysts
  • Ensure data governance, security, and compliance standards are maintained across all data systems
  • Oversee operational aspects including monitoring, incident response, and disaster recovery planning
  • Implement data quality frameworks and automated testing to uphold data integrity
  • Drive performance, cost management, and optimization initiatives across the data platform
  • Mentor and guide junior to mid-level engineers, fostering a culture of engineering excellence
  • Conduct technical reviews, share knowledge, and contribute to the continuous improvement of data engineering practices
