The CPU team, part of the IP Design Group, is at the forefront of RISC-V CPU innovation at Nordic Semiconductor, by developing the VPR (Viper) processor family, enabling next-generation embedded solutions and Soft Peripherals (SP), emulating HW peripherals on our CPU. VPR appears in three key forms: as a general-purpose processor, as a Peripheral Processor (PPR) for dedicated peripheral management, and as the Fast Lightweight Peripheral Processor (FLPR) for flexible, application-controlled offload and customer programmability.

You’ll join a collaborative, highly skilled team shaping the future of digital hardware and embedded systems. It is a tight knit team that develops a groundbreaking and impactful functionality for Nordic’s products. As an RISC-V Processor Developer, you will help design, implement, and verify our RISC-V processor (VPR) and its integration in Nordic’s SoCs. You’ll work hands-on with architecture, hardware design, and continuous improvement of our RISC-V solutions, collaborating closely with hardware, software, and verification teams.

Key responsibilities

  • Develop and improve our RISC-V processor (VPR) and related technologies
  • Design, implement, and verify processor features, performance, and integration
  • Contribute to the architecture and evolution of VPR
  • Collaborate with hardware, software, and verification teams to solve technical challenges
  • Participate in technical reviews and drive continuous improvement
  • (Senior) Mentor and coach junior engineers, and take technical leadership in the team’s projects


Qualification And Skills

  • Master’s degree in engineering, computer science, or a related field; or a bachelor’s degree with relevant experience
  • Experience or broad experience (senior) in digital design, verification and hardware description languages (Verilog, SystemVerilog)
  • Competence in or experience with embedded systems, microcontroller internals (memory, interrupts, buses, peripherals)
  • Competence in or experience with RISC-V, CPU design and process architecture is a strong plus
  • Proficiency in C and/or Assembly
  • Fluent English language skills (written and oral)
