Our Charter: Advancing Windows through Three Pillars
- Search: Delivering fast, reliable, and relevant system and semantic search capabilities across all Windows surfaces. This enables users to quickly find information and resources, enhancing their productivity and overall experience within the Windows ecosystem.
- Agentic OS (AgOS): Developing secure primitives that empower agents to sense, reason, plan, act, and learn. These capabilities are designed with trust and privacy as core principles, ensuring that users’ data and activities remain protected while leveraging intelligent agent functionalities.
- AI Foundry / Windows AI APIs: Equipping developers with robust tools to build AI-powered applications. Through offerings such as Windows ML, WebNN, and Foundry, the team simplifies the processes of model conversion, optimisation, and hardware acceleration, making it easier for developers to integrate advanced AI capabilities into their applications.
The Windows Developer Platform team is responsible for creating the foundational capabilities that allow developers to build rich and modern applications for Windows. The team’s work has a profound impact, influencing the daily computing experience of more than a billion users around the globe. Responsibilities
- Deliver high-quality software by actively engaging in development, testing, integration, deployment, and effective collaboration with partner teams.
- Advance Windows AI functionality by developing model tooling, optimizing inference, and enhancing developer experiences for hybrid and local AI solutions.
- Promote engineering excellence through a focus on reliability, performance benchmarks, telemetry, and the implementation of privacy-by-design principles.
- Collaborate with engineers to design and improve essential platform components.
- Develop expertise as a subject matter authority in a key technology or domain.
- Leverage customer insights and telemetry data to inform platform enhancements that accelerate time to market and recovery.
- Champion the adoption of AI-assisted development methodologies and integrate AI-driven analytics into engineering processes.
- Foster a culture of continuous learning and inclusive teamwork.
- Streamline engineering workflows by introducing thoughtful technical innovations.
Required Qualifications:
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, or related technical discipline with proven experience coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python
- OR equivalent experience.
- Proficient in CS fundamentals and languages: C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Python.
- Skilled at researching, prototyping new platform ideas.
- Able to explain technical concepts clearly with data-driven storytelling.
- Shows growth mindset, humility, professionalism under pressure.
- Experienced at fostering inclusion and empowerment.
- Strong problem-solving and hypothesis skills.
- Solid design, coding, debugging, teamwork abilities.
- Hands-on with AI developer tools like GitHub Copilot, ChatGPT for coding, design, and productivity.
- Understands core AI concepts: model capabilities, context, retrieval augmentation, evaluation, responsible use.
- Microsoft Cloud Background Check: This position will be required to pass the
- Microsoft Cloud background check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter. “
- At least one year of commercial software shipping experience.
- Skilled in C/C++ and developing Windows apps.
- Experience adding AI features such as natural language, semantic search, or intelligent assistance.
- Semantic search or content understanding on Windows surfaces.
- Agentic workflows or orchestration patterns.
- Hardware-aware performance tuning (CPU/GPU/NPU).
- Familiarity with Windows platform APIs, COM, WinRT, and diagnostics.
- Strong customer focus and passion for quality engineering.
