🚨 Senior Security Systems Engineers – Defence / ASD (RFQ LH-05209) 🚨

Azooa is currently responding to ICT Labour Hire RFQ LH-05209 (DMP2) and is seeking Senior Security Systems Engineers (EL1 equivalent) to support the Australian Signals Directorate (ASD) as part of the Government Uplift’s Cyber Security Remediation Program (CURP).

This is a live Defence RFQ, not a speculative opportunity. We are engaging with experienced, security-cleared professionals who are interested in being put forward as part of our formal submission under RFQ LH-05209.

🛡️ About the RFQ

Under RFQ LH-05209, ASD is seeking highly experienced Security Systems Engineers to work across multiple Australian Government entities, delivering security advice, engineering design, implementation, and remediation activities.

The work spans systems classified from OFFICIAL through to TOP SECRET, and requires engineers who are comfortable operating as trusted subject matter experts in sensitive, complex environments.

This engagement supports ASD’s Cyber Security Remediation Program (CURP), which focuses on uplifting cyber maturity, reducing systemic risk, and strengthening resilience across government systems.

🧠 The role in practice

As a Senior Security Systems Engineer, you will operate at both a technical and advisory level, often across several agencies or workstreams simultaneously.

Typical activities include:

• Providing specialist security engineering advice across complex ICT environments
• Designing and implementing security controls aligned with ASD’s Information Security Manual (ISM), Essential Eight, and other relevant standards
• Supporting remediation activities to address identified security gaps and risks
• Developing and maintaining technical documentation, including SOPs, design documentation, change requests, and as-built / as-configured artefacts
• Facilitating and participating in technical workshops focused on security design, uplift, and remediation
• Developing and testing prototype security configurations to inform guidance and decision-making
• Engaging with stakeholders ranging from hands-on technical teams through to senior executives

You will be expected to work with a high degree of autonomy, while also collaborating effectively within hybrid teams operating across locations and agencies.

🛠️ Technical experience we’re looking for

We’re seeking depth and breadth across multiple domains. Strong candidates will typically bring experience across several of the following:

Core platforms & environments

• Microsoft Active Directory and complex Windows enterprise environments
• Enterprise Linux / Unix environments (e.g. RHEL or similar)
• Cloud environments including Azure, AWS, GPC (SaaS, PaaS, IaaS)

Security & infrastructure

• Networking technologies, gateways, and/or software-defined networking
• Cross Domain Solutions and/or data diodes
• SIEM platforms such as Microsoft Sentinel or Splunk

Security frameworks & controls

• Practical implementation of controls aligned to ASD ISM
• Experience applying or uplifting Essential Eight maturity
• Broader experience with industry cyber security standards and best practices

This role suits engineers who enjoy solving complex security problems and can confidently explain why a control is required — not just how to implement it.

The role is predominantly onsite, reflecting the sensitive nature of the work and the need for close collaboration. Limited flexible working arrangements may be negotiated in line with Defence requirements.

You’ll be trusted to:

• Work independently with minimal supervision
• Balance competing priorities across multiple stakeholders
• Provide guidance and direction to others without formal line management
• Translate strategic security objectives into clear, actionable technical tasks

🔐 Security & suitability requirements

Due to the nature of this engagement under RFQ LH-05209:

• You must already hold an active NV2 or TSPV clearance
• Candidates must be willing to undergo ASD’s Organisational Suitability Assessment (OSA)
• ASD will not sponsor clearance upgrades for this role

The OSA includes a psychological assessment and suitability interview. Candidates should be comfortable operating in highly trusted environments and prepared for the associated vetting requirements.

• 📌 Locations: ACT, VIC, NSW
• 🏢 Working arrangement: Predominantly onsite
• 🕒 Hours: Up to 40 hours per week
• 📅 Estimated start: May 2026
• ⏳ Initial contract: 12 months
• 🔁 Extensions: Up to 2 x 12-month extensions
