About The Role

Zillow is seeking a highly skilled Principal Machine Learning Engineer to join the Agentic AI team. In this role, you will be at the forefront of developing advanced multimodal foundational AI technologies that facilitate autonomous, context-aware interactions. Your responsibilities will include prototyping innovative ideas, evaluating models, and deploying scalable solutions on Zillow’s infrastructure. You will focus on perception, language understanding, deep reasoning, and reinforcement learning to enable AI agents to make informed decisions. This position offers the opportunity to work remotely and contribute to a product that aims to revolutionize the real estate experience through intelligent, multi-agent systems.

As a key member of the team, you will leverage frameworks such as AgentSDK, LangChain, and LangGraph to design and develop multi-agent systems capable of complex, autonomous interactions. You will utilize state-of-the-art Generative AI models, including reasoning models and real-time voice APIs, to build prototypes and convert them into scalable, product-level solutions. Your approach will embody a build, learn, and pivot mentality, ensuring high-quality deployment and continuous improvement. You will mentor engineers, foster a culture of innovation, and ensure responsible AI practices. Additionally, you will distill complex research and system designs into clear insights for diverse audiences, including executive leadership. Staying at the cutting edge of agentic AI paradigms, you will drive product innovation and refine processes for experimentation, testing, and deployment, balancing rapid innovation with reliability.

Qualifications

• Master’s degree or higher in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field.
• 7+ years of hands-on experience developing large-scale, impactful AI solutions.
• Recent experience building agent-based systems, multi-agent collaboration, or similar paradigms.
• Proficiency in developing dialogue systems capable of long conversations, multi-step reasoning, and context-rich decision-making.
• Experience deploying and scaling AI services supporting hundreds of millions of daily interactions with high availability and low latency.
• Strong understanding of foundational LLMs, reinforcement learning, AI planning, and natural language processing.
• Experience with frameworks such as AgentSDK, LangChain, and LangGraph is preferred.
• Track record of publishing impactful research in top AI/ML venues is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Translate complex research findings into actionable insights for stakeholders across technical and non-technical domains.
• Drive product innovation by staying informed about emerging paradigms in agentic AI.
• Lead applied science projects, ensuring alignment on timelines and prioritization.
• Refine experimentation, A/B testing, and deployment processes to balance rapid innovation with system reliability.
