We are currently seeking a Devops Specialist on a PERMANENT Basis for a start in January 2026.

This role can be done remotely from Sydney, Brisbane or Melbourne with occasioanal travel to Canberra as required.

Role Overview

You will play a key role in establishing and maintaining the cloud hosting, automation, and deployment foundation for a large-scale digital transformation program. This role is responsible for building secure, scalable, repeatable infrastructure using Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC), enabling robust CI/CD pipelines, supporting development teams across multiple workstreams, and ensuring environments meet government security and compliance requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, build, and maintain cloud infrastructure on Azure (AWS experience also desirable) using Infrastructure-as-Code (e.g., Terraform, Bicep, CloudFormation).
  • Implement and optimise CI/CD pipelines to support automated builds, testing, deployments, and environment provisioning.
  • Work closely with solution architects, developers, and QA teams to ensure seamless integration between application code, cloud infrastructure, and deployment automation.
  • Establish and maintain secure cloud environments aligned to ISM and government security expectations.
  • Develop environment strategies (dev/test/uat/prod), including configuration management and automated environment refresh or rebuild patterns.
  • Implement monitoring, logging, alerting, and operational dashboards to support proactive performance and security management.
  • Collaborate with cybersecurity specialists to embed secure-by-design principles, identity and access management patterns, and continuous compliance controls.
  • Contribute to incident response, environment troubleshooting, and optimisation to ensure system reliability and performance.
  • Support migration activities, including automation of data and asset movement where appropriate.
  • Document patterns, frameworks, and operational runbooks to support ongoing BAU operations.

Skills & Experience

  • Strong experience as a DevOps Engineer or Cloud Engineer within complex digital programs, preferably in government or other regulated sectors.
  • Deep expertise in IaC (Terraform, ARM and Bicep strongly preferred; CloudFormation or similar also valuable).
  • Proven experience building and maintaining CI/CD pipelines (Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, GitLab CI, Jenkins, etc.).
  • Solid understanding of cloud architecture and services across Azure. (compute, network, identity, storage, monitoring).
  • Experience implementing logging, monitoring, observability tooling (e.g., CloudWatch, Azure Monitor, ELK, Prometheus/Grafana).
  • Strong knowledge of cloud security practices, including least privilege access, key management, network segmentation, and policy enforcement.
  • Familiarity with containerisation (Docker) and orchestration (Kubernetes) beneficial but not essential.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with cross-functional teams, translating technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders where required.
  • Experience supporting automated testing frameworks, environment provisioning, and application deployment.
  • Certifications in cloud or DevOps disciplines highly regarded.
  • Development experience in Microsoft technologies such as .Net Framework, .Net Core, C# is highly regarded & desirable.

  • High-confidence deployments supported by automated pipelines and robust guardrails.
  • Reduced operational risk through proactive monitoring and well-documented runbooks.
  • A strong partnership with development, architecture, and security teams ensuring seamless technical delivery.

You MUST be an Australian Citizen and hold a minimum of a Baseline Security Clearance, and be willing to obtain NV1 to be considered for this position.
