Job Title: Senior Game Designer (Mobile Games)

Location: Remote

Employment Type: Full-time

About Us:

We are an indie game studio passionate about pushing the boundaries of mobile gaming. Our mission is to create memorable, immersive experiences that engage and excite players around the world. We’re seeking a Senior Game Designer to take a leading role in shaping the design of our upcoming mobile titles and contribute to our growing studio.

Job Description:

As a Senior Game Designer, you will play a key role in shaping and delivering engaging mobile free-to-play games, owning the design of core gameplay systems, progression, and player experience from concept through live operation. You will work closely with Unity developers, artists, and producers to turn ideas into polished, scalable features, balancing creative vision with data-driven decision-making.

In this role, you will design, iterate, and optimize gameplay based on player behavior, analytics, and market insights, ensuring strong retention, engagement, and monetization performance. If you have led design on multiple shipped mobile titles, thrive in fast-paced environments, and enjoy building games that are both fun and commercially successful, we’d love to hear from you.

🧩 Responsibilities

  • Own and drive the design of core gameplay systems, including core loops, progression, difficulty curves, and moment-to-moment player experience, aligned with product goals and target audience.
  • Lead the end-to-end design process for mobile games — from early concept and prototyping through soft launch, global release, and live operation.
  • Analyze player behavior, analytics, and qualitative feedback to iterate on gameplay, improve retention, and optimize engagement.
  • Design, balance, and continuously improve free-to-play monetization systems, including ads and IAPs, ensuring seamless integration with gameplay and player satisfaction.
  • Collaborate closely with Unity developers, artists, and producers to ensure design intent is clearly communicated, technically feasible, and well implemented on mobile platforms.
  • Conduct competitive analysis and market research, identifying trends, successful mechanics, and opportunities to innovate within the mobile games space.
  • Define and execute testing and iteration strategies, including playtests, soft-launch learnings, and data-driven improvements.
  • Create clear and actionable design documentation, flowcharts, wireframes, and prototypes to align cross-functional teams.
  • Support live-ops and content updates, including tuning, feature iteration, and event design based on performance data.
  • Mentor and provide feedback to junior or mid-level designers, contributing to design quality and best practices across the team.

📌 Requirements

  • Fluent in written and spoken English (professional working proficiency).
  • 5+ years of professional game design experience, with at least 2 shipped mobile games (iOS / Android).
  • Strong hands-on experience with free-to-play mobile games, including:
  • Monetization systems (ads, IAPs, hybrid models)
  • Player progression, retention, and engagement loops
  • Proven understanding of the mobile gaming market, including:
  • Player behavior and psychology
  • KPIs such as D1 / D7 retention, ARPDAU, LTV
  • Current trends and best practices for iOS and Android
  • Deep expertise in core gameplay mechanics, level design, and player motivation, with the ability to iterate based on data and player feedback.
  • Experience working with Unity-based mobile games (ability to collaborate directly with Unity developers is required).
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with experience using game metrics, live-ops data, or A/B testing to inform design decisions.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with experience working closely with developers, artists, and product stakeholders.
  • Ability to own features end-to-end, mentor junior designers, and contribute to a fast-paced mobile studio environment.

Bonus Qualifications (Nice to Have)

  • Experience designing hyper-casual, casual, or idle mobile games with proven retention and monetization performance.
  • Hands-on experience with live-ops, including time-limited events, seasonal content, and economy rebalancing.
  • Familiarity with A/B testing frameworks and data-driven iteration of gameplay features.
  • Experience working with analytics tools such as Firebase, GameAnalytics, Adjust, Appsflyer, or similar platforms.
  • Understanding of UA-driven design and how gameplay, difficulty curves, and onboarding affect CPI and ROAS.
  • Experience collaborating with product managers or UA teams to optimize retention and monetization.
  • Prior experience in a remote or distributed team environment.
  • Experience mentoring or reviewing work from junior or mid-level designers.
  • Basic scripting or technical design skills (e.g., Unity scripting familiarity, design-driven prototyping).
  • Strong passion for mobile games, with awareness of current market leaders and trends.
