We are the House of Doers, united by an authentic spirit of action. With teamwork and a customer-first mindset, we create better commerce every single day. So let’s roll up our sleeves and get things moving again – LET’S K!
Do you want to drive a data revolution in the automotive retail industry? Are you an experienced data engineer who can build robust pipelines one day and champion data governance the next? Do you get excited about modern cloud tech (Snowflake, dbt) and the prospect of shaping how a business uses data from the ground up? If you answered yes, then join us on K-Auto’s journey to transform how we think and act on data!
About The Role
As a Senior Data Engineer for K-Auto you will be a key data expert empowering our Car Trade business to become truly data-driven. You’ll take ownership of developing and expanding our Snowflake-based data solution with a modern toolset and best practices. This is a hands-on, strategic role where you will not only build data solutions but also instil a culture of “doing things right” with data across the organisation.
You play a key role in ensuring that data is readily available for our modern analytics and AI solutions, presenting it in a format these applications can truly understand. By doing so, you act as an enabler and accelerator for the efficient and high-quality utilisation and use of data, making it easier for our business to harness its full potential in innovative ways.
You will be part of Kesko’s central Data & Analytics Platforms team, collaborating with expert & supportive colleagues in the platforms as well as other domain-focused data engineers. Your daily work will be with K-Auto IT and business teams.
We are working in a hybrid workplace model where we combine office days at K-Kampus, K-Auto Vantaa office and remote work to best suit both the role and the team. Come join our professional team and start building your own kind of career in K group!
Your Main Responsibilities
- Designing, building and optimizing data pipelines and models: Use Snowflake, dbt, and other tools to create scalable data integrations and data models that support K-Auto’s data and analytics needs.
- Implementing data management & governance: Establish sound data practices – from documenting lineage and using data catalogues to setting up quality checks – to ensure we trust and understand our data.
- Modernizing legacy data processes: Where needed, re-engineer or integrate data from legacy SQL Server-based solutions into the new Snowflake platform.
- Collaboration and consulting: Work closely with K-Auto domain experts, analysts, and Kesko’s wider data team. Translate business needs into data solutions, advise on best practices, and support others in using the data platform.
- Continuous improvement: Keep an eye on new tech and techniques. Continuously improve performance, cost-efficiency, and reliability of our data solutions.
- Strong experience in data engineering with modern cloud data platforms. Hands-on expertise in Snowflake is required. Proficiency with dbt for data transformations and SQL for data analysis/manipulation. You can write efficient SQL and have solid data modelling skills. Experience with version control (Git) and CI/CD pipelines in a data context.
- Background in data warehousing/ETL: You have designed or maintained data pipelines. Experience with traditional SQL Server-based ETL or integration is beneficial, as it helps in understanding our legacy environment.
- Data management mindset: Familiarity with data cataloging, lineage tools, or overall data governance frameworks. You care about documentation and data quality.
- Communication: Excellent teamwork and communication skills. Fluency in English is required (our working language). Finnish language skills are beneficial but not necessary – our team is international. You can clearly explain complex data topics to both technical and non-technical colleagues.
- Self-driven & proactive attitude: You take initiative to improve things and aren’t afraid to suggest new ideas. You are solution-oriented and able to work independently when needed, but also know when to ask for help or input.
- Car Trade: past experience in car trade is an advantage, but not a must.
- Please note that the role is in Finland and you will need the existing right to work here. Kesko is unable to sponsor work permits or visas.
- You’ll be working on business-critical platforms and your work really matters: the input you provide can affect the daily shopping experience of our customers.
- You have a great chance to work with the rapidly developing and electrifying automotive industry.
- You get a broad view of the rapidly developing commerce and trade sector.
- Become part of community of expert colleagues, who are ready to support each other when you need it.
- For office days - modern office with several accommodations (e.g., collaboration and break areas throughout the office, gym, health care services, restaurant and cafeteria…) along good connections (and parking) in Kalasatama, Helsinki.
- Modern work tools and numerous opportunities to learn and network as a future professional.
- Extensive employee benefits unique to the K group. These include, among others: Culture & sport benefit (ePassi), shopping benefits that apply in K-Group stores and staff shops (K-Citymarket, K-Supermarket & K-Market, K-Rauta, Intersport, Budget Sport), own occupational health care services and leisure time accident insurance. You are also entitled to a car benefit according to our company policy
