Fleet Optimization product line, as a part of Wärtsilä Voyage Services in Wärtsilä Marine, is focused on radically transforming how vessels perform their voyage by leveraging the latest digital technologies, to deliver a step-change in safety, efficiency, reliability and emissions. We are now seeking a Project Manager to work in our Project Management team within Fleet Optimization, Customer Delivery. The PM team is a strategically important team within Fleet Optimization, responsible for rolling out the hardware, deploying software and data capabilities and enabling the future product services for the next generation of products offered.
This role is key to Fleet Optimization’s ability to deploy digitally enabled products effectively. This is a programme of activity, working with a talented, experienced team from across different domains. A key part of the role is in shaping the technologies, processes and ways of working to help Voyage Services manage digital deployments at scale.
This permanent position is based in Helsinki, Finland and occasional travel may be required internationally.
What does a Project Manager do?
Project Manager’s role is to manage our delivery and data implementation projects to our customers in the marine industry globally. Our systems collect data from different systems onboard vessels and generate new information to assist the decision-making of the vessel’s personnel. Some products comprise of both hardware and software with some having only software.
Project Manager’s key responsibilities include:
- Managing customer delivery projects independently within schedule and budget from sales handover to handing over to our Customer Support
- Planning multiple projects for optimal execution together with customers and third parties
- Coordinating all our activities related to customer project deliveries with different functions such as Project Engineering, Supply Chain, Customer Lifecycle Management, Data Operations, Customer Support
- Working in coordination with our sales and local service partners
- Managing changes, reporting progress, mitigating risks
- Act as the main contact and focal point towards customers and relevant parties
- Manage project resources and their works from different disciplines
- Develop and maintain team’s tools used in the role (e.g. resource planning, project scheduling, task management)
- Master / Bachelor in IT or Engineering
- Strong knowledge of project management methodologies, tools, project financials. A recognized project management certification will be an advantage
- Knowledge of relevant software, IT and electronic products and tools
- A minimum of 3 years’ experience in a similar PM role
- Experience in data driven or digital delivery projects is desirable
- Experience of working in the maritime industry is desirable
- Knowledge in marine electronics is desirable;
- Capability to independently manage multiple customer delivery projects simultaneously
- Customer focused & conscientious attitude
- Good communication skills and a genuine team player
- Self-motivated, independent, excellent problem-solving skills and decision-making skills
- Continuous improvement mindset and approach to develop team’s way-of-work
- Good and proactive prioritizing skills
- Fluent written and spoken English, other languages are considered an advantage
- Solid technical background
- Capability to attend internal and external calls/meetings outside common office hours at times
