Your role

The role will ensure compliance with our environmental obligations, provide research and insights on environmental policy and developments, provide support for sustainability projects and assist in shaping the sustainability strategy at Aer Lingus.

Reporting into the Sustainability Manager, the Business Analyst - Sustainability coordinates environmental compliance across the airline, working with multiple business areas and teams, external auditors and consultants, to meet legal and business compliance and reporting requirements, on time and within budget. In addition, the successful candidate will provide data-driven insights and analysis on a range of sustainability topics including carbon emissions, fuel efficiency, operational processes, inflight, ground and product related initiatives to support decision-making at Aer Lingus.

This is an exciting opportunity to join Aer Lingus at a critical time in the transition on our sustainability journey. It is a key role, that will help Aer Lingus deliver on its’ industry-leading sustainability ambitions and related compliance obligations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Apply effective data-driven insights as an engagement tool to support the Sustainability Team in communicating the Aer Lingus Sustainability Strategy.
  • Analyse & report performance against Aer Lingus &IAG key performance indicators in the areas carbon, including the carbon fuel efficiency metric (gCO2/pkm), noise, waste, energy & water and other sustainability metrics as needed.
  • Research & maintain briefing papers on key environmental issues including but not limited to Sustainable Aviation Fuel and approved pathways, EU Emissions trading scheme, CORSIA, European, National and UK legislation developments.
  • Identify related risks and opportunities associated with legislation, policy developments and trends.
  • Interact with Group Airlines to advance sustainability performance, gather information and build consensus on modelling methodologies and assumptions.
  • Ensuring that all environmental regulatory and compliance standards are met, including IATA Environmental Management Certification (‘IEnvA) and ISO14001.
  • Supporting environmental audits, incident investigations and root cause analysis ; identifying corrective and preventive actions and presenting to Management. Driving the tracking and implementation of corrective/preventive actions.
  • Engages with external auditors and consultants where necessary as part of compliance obligations such as ReFuel EU and the Emissions Trading Schemes.
  • Coordination of annual Sustainability Report publication.
  • Provide project management, implementation and delivery support for key sustainability initiatives as required.

Your Qualifications And Key Criteria

  • Education to degree level or equivalent with excellent numerical qualifications.
  • 2-3 years’ experience in a sustainability-related role.
  • Data analytics: Advanced Microsoft Excel skills. Ability to analyse statistical data with confidence is essential.
  • Knowledge and some experience with using data analytics tools such as Power BI and AI tools such as Copilot would be an advantage or the ability to build knowledge base quickly.
  • Knowledge of relevant existing and emerging environmental legislation would be an advantage, or the ability to build knowledge base quickly.
  • Continuous review of best practice, driving efficiency and improvements.
  • Be a collaborative, detail-oriented team player and complete assignments with minimum supervision, while performing well under pressure.
  • Ability to work on own initiative and proactive approach.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Have strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Convey professional image to all levels of associates.
  • Able to support the coordination of team activity, manage relationships and influence across the business.
