Climate economics research traineeship, Chief Economist Department

We are looking for candidates studying towards (or recent graduates from) a master’s degree, PhD, or postdoctoral programme to contribute to a climate-related research project within our Chief Economist Department. European Stability Mechanism (ESM) traineeships aim to provide talented university students and recent graduates with an opportunity to understand how the ESM works and contribute to its mission, while also pursuing their research interests.
KEY ACTIVITIES
- Collaborate closely with experienced professionals within the organisation to gain hands-on experience in applied economic analysis, data analysis, and modelling.
- Develop and enhance skills in economic and data analysis through practical application and guidance from ESM colleagues.
- Assist in various duties as assigned by ESM colleagues, ensuring alignment with the department’s objectives.
- Undertake and complete an agreed research project that aligns with the department’s agenda, contributing valuable insights and findings.
KEY BACKGROUND & EXPERIENCE
- Master’s degree in economics, finance, data science, statistics, or a related field. A PhD degree in the same areas of study would be considered an asset
- Substantial experience in dataset construction, data analysis, and empirical analysis using specialised software (Stata, R, MATLAB)
- Knowledge of climate economics and econometrics and climate-economy models would be a strong plus
- Fluency in English, both oral and written
