Position Overview
The Human Resources Business Partner for Attendance Programs plays a crucial role in supporting Unity Health Toronto’s mission by fostering a healthy, engaged, and productive workforce. Reporting to the Manager of Human Rights and Programs, this new position will collaborate closely with staff, leadership, and other stakeholders to implement a new multi-layer program designed to address the complex challenges of sick absenteeism. You will be responsible for leading proactive attendance initiatives, encouraging positive attendance behaviours, and ensuring the consistent application of attendance-related policies and practices.
As the Human Resources Business Partner for Attendance Programs, key responsibilities will include:
- Leading unit-level reviews and action planning to address attendance challenges;
- Leading and administering multiple attendance programs, including developing and maintaining program tools, databases, documentation, and resources;
- Providing education and coaching to staff and leaders on the organization’s programs;
- Overseeing attendance awareness and recognition initiatives to align with organizational goals and encouraging positive attendance behaviours across all sites;
- Working in collaboration with Workplace Health and Safety Services to provide expert Human resources advice for identified cases; and
- Collaborating with internal stakeholders to manage program data, including building and maintaining dashboards, generating reports, and tracking performance metrics.
The Ideal Candidate
We are seeking an experienced individual with a strong commitment to employee well-being and a solid background in employee relations, attendance management, project management, data analysis, and a commitment to client service. The ideal candidate should possess strong investigative and influencing skills, as well as experience in education and training, presentations and report writing. A thorough understanding of human rights legislation, particularly related to disability and accommodations, is essential.
In this role, you will utilize data to assist leaders in making informed decisions through one-on-one coaching, team presentations, and the development of practical tools and resources aimed at improving attendance and workplace wellness.
You will collaborate closely with managers and stakeholders to create sustainable attendance strategies and promote a healthy, supportive work environment. We are looking for someone curious about the root causes of absenteeism, stays informed about best practices, and develops strategies that align with both employee needs and organizational goals.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree required in Human Resources or a Bachelor’s degree in a related field and a diploma or certificate in Human Resources Management.
- CHRP designation or candidacy strongly preferred.
- Minimum three (3) years’ experience in Human Resources providing independent employee and labour relations advice, guidance, and effective solutions in support of client needs. Experience in healthcare or a similarly complex unionized public sector environment preferred.
- Experience with attendance management programs
- Strong understanding of employment legislation, including the Employment Standards Act, Occupational Health and Safety Act, and other applicable regulations. Must have advanced knowledge and understanding of the legal principles and framework associated with the Human Rights Code, including accommodation requirements.
- Ability to build and maintain effective relationships at all levels of the organization.
- Proven ability to provide client-focused, professional support.

- Proficiency in HRIS systems and Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel.
- Excellent interpersonal, presentation, communication, time management, and analytical skills.
- Strong problem-solving and decision-making abilities with the capacity to work both independently and collaboratively.
- Satisfactory attendance record.
This is a network-wide position requiring an on-site presence at various locations across Unity Health Toronto. A hybrid work arrangement (combination of on-site and remote work) is available, subject to organizational needs.
