We are a leading independent online news platform based in Qatar, committed to delivering credible, timely, and engaging journalism to a growing digital audience. We cover a wide range of topics including local news, regional affairs, business, culture, and lifestyle stories. As we expand our editorial operations and deepen our impact, we are looking for a Senior Editor to help lead our newsroom operations and support the Editor-in-Chief in executing our editorial vision.
Job Summary:
The Senior Editor will be responsible for managing daily content production, mentoring reporters, and ensuring that all published work meets our journalistic standards. This role requires strong news judgment, excellent editing skills, and the ability to work in a fast-paced, digital-first newsroom. The Senior Editor will serve as the Editor-in-Chief’s key deputy and help drive editorial consistency, innovation, and impact.
Key Responsibilities:
Editorial Oversight
- Manage daily editorial operations including news gathering, assignments, story development, and publication.
- Edit stories for clarity, accuracy, tone, and structure across news, features, and multimedia content.
- Ensure all content aligns with editorial guidelines, brand voice, and ethical standards.
- Lead editorial planning for breaking news, thematic coverage, and special reports.
Team Supervision
- Supervise and support a team of staff journalists and editors.
- Provide regular feedback, guidance, and editorial mentoring to ensure professional development.
- Step in to lead editorial meetings and newsroom direction in the absence of the Editor-in-Chief.
Content Strategy
- Collaborate with the Editor-in-Chief to refine content strategy, audience engagement plans, and editorial priorities.
- Use data and analytics to inform coverage decisions and optimize performance.
- Work closely with social media and digital teams to amplify content reach.
Editorial Quality & Integrity
- Uphold the platform’s standards of accuracy, fairness, and balance in reporting.
- Perform daily fact-checking and ensure all stories are properly sourced and verified.
- Manage and review published stories.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in Journalism, Communications, Media Studies, or a related field.
- At least 5–7 years of editorial experience in a newsroom setting, including experience managing other journalists.
- Proven editing skills across a range of topics (news, culture, business, features).
- Strong grasp of news cycles, digital publishing workflows, and content management systems (CMS).
- Familiarity with SEO, social media platforms, and audience engagement best practices.
- High editorial standards with a sharp eye for detail and accuracy.
- Ability to work under pressure and meet tight deadlines.
- Fluency in English is required; Arabic is an asset.
Preferred Attributes:
- Excellent communication and leadership skills.
- A collaborative spirit and solutions-oriented approach to newsroom challenges.
- Interest in or understanding of regional affairs, particularly Qatar and the GCC.
- Multimedia or video editing experience is a plus.
