We have an exciting opportunity for a Digital Forensics Intern to join us for 12 months, this role will give you the opportunity to become involved with a range of tasks and gain valuable experience in the Digital Forensics arena.

Working within the imaging lab in the Digital Forensic Unit you will be responsible for the extraction of data from a variety of digital exhibits which may include computers, mobile phones, drones and smart devices. Full training will be provided on a number of advanced extraction techniques and the associated evidence handling procedures. You will be expected to provide technical advice and assistance to officers engaged in the investigation of digital crimes throughout the South Wales Police area.

Qualification Criteria

To be eligible you must be working towards a degree and be in your ‘sandwich year’ / ‘year in industry’ (between years 2 and 3) in a relevant subject related to Digital Forensics. You will have knowledge in Microsoft Windows, OS X, iOS, Linux and Android operating systems with a sound understanding of criminal law, with particular emphasis on computer crime legislation, including RIPA, computer misuse, ECHR and Data Protection. Experience with forensic imaging and examination tools would be beneficial.

Shortlisting for this vacancy will take place on 16th and 17th February 2026.

Interviews for this vacancy will take place on either 16th or 17th March 2026.
