About alveos

Alveos is the a wearable platform unlocking a novel signal of human health: the acoustic signature of breath. While the rest of the wearable market relies on indirect proxies (like HRV), alveos uses proprietary acoustic sensors and machine learning to measure respiratory mechanics directly and continuously.

Backed by Antler and preparing for a major global launch in Q1 2026, we are bridging the gap between consumer wellness and future medical monitoring. We are looking for a Founding Engineer to join our core team in Helsinki and build the data infrastructure that will power the world’s largest acoustic respiratory dataset

The role

As our Founding Backend Engineer, you won’t just be maintaining APIs; you will define the architecture for a completely new category of health data. You will own the end-to-end data flow—connecting our acoustic wearable firmware to our mobile app and cloud.

Crucially, you will help build the infrastructure for a first-of-its-kind health LLM**.** You will design the pipelines that train, fine-tune, and serve this model, positioning yourself at the forefront of Generative AI for physiological data

What you’ll do

• Architect the Foundation: Design and build the backend services that synchronize high-fidelity respiratory data across firmware, mobile (iOS/Android), and cloud.
• Data Strategy & Pipelines: Implement efficient pipelines for time-series acoustic data, balancing reliability, cost, and latency.
• Infrastructure as Code: Build and operate our cloud infrastructure (AWS/GCP/Azure), including deployments, monitoring, and logging.
• ML Infrastructure: Enable data science delivery by building production-grade infrastructure for deploying, versioning, and monitoring ML models (including self-hosted, domain-specific language models) operating on longitudinal physiological data.
• Security & Privacy: Own our "privacy by design" implementation, managing access control, encryption, and GDPR compliance for sensitive health data.

Requirements

• Proven experience building and shipping production backend systems.
• Strong system design skills across APIs, data models, and scalable services.
• Hands-on experience with cloud infrastructure on AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Experience designing reliable data ingestion pipelines and sync flows.
• Strong security fundamentals and comfort owning security decisions in a small team.
• Comfortable working closely with firmware and mobile.

Great to haves

• Experience supporting ML or generative models in production, including model serving, data/version management, evaluation pipelines, and cost-aware inference.
• Experience designing data systems for continuous sensor streams or other high-frequency time-series (e.g. wearables, IoT, telemetry).
