About XOCEAN
XOCEAN is an ocean data company – we collect data for clients ranging from mapping the seabed to monitoring the environment. However, we do this differently, instead of using conventional crewed survey ships, we have developed our own Uncrewed Surface Vessel (USV) capable of performing the same surveys with a fraction of the environmental impact.
Overview
We are seeking a AWS Cloud Data Engineer to support our growing data operations, working with large datasets from uncrewed surface vessels (USVs). This is a full-time, office-based role at our Dundalk Operations Centre, where you’ll collaborate closely with colleagues across data, software, and operations.
This role combines AWS expertise, strong data engineering skills, and a passion for automation and continuous improvement. The ideal candidate will design, build, and optimise data infrastructure and workflows that enable XOCEAN’s global data operations.
Main Duties & Responsibilities
- Architect & Design: Develop secure, scalable, and cost-optimized cloud architectures using AWS services aligned with business and technical requirements.
- Data Engineering: Design and maintain efficient data pipelines and processing workflows using Python and AWS data services.
- Support & Troubleshooting: Act as the escalation point for complex AWS infrastructure issues, providing root-cause analysis and remediation.
- Monitoring & Optimisation: Continuously monitor system and pipeline performance, implementing best practices for cost management, availability, and disaster recovery.
- Security & Compliance: Ensure solutions comply with security standards (e.g., ISO 27001, SOC2) and AWS Well-Architected Framework.
- Collaboration: Partner with development, DevOps, and IT teams to support application deployments and resolve infrastructure challenges.
- Documentation & Knowledge Sharing: Maintain comprehensive system documentation, runbooks, and knowledge base articles.
- Innovation: Stay current with AWS innovations and recommend new technologies to improve system performance and reliability.
Requirements: Essential Skills / Attributes and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- 2-5 years of experience managing and supporting AWS cloud environments.
- In-depth knowledge of AWS services such as FSx, EC2, S3, RDS, Lambda, CloudWatch, IAM, and VPC.
- Experience with infrastructure-as-code (IaC) tools (CloudFormation, Terraform).
- Strong troubleshooting and performance-tuning skills.
- Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills.
- Ability to work independently and in a fast-paced, project-driven environment.
- Experience in agile project management is a plus.
