Junction is a not-for-profit hackathon and tech community, with a mission to bridge the gap between creators by making everyone fall in love with technology. We organize hackathons and other tech events - around the year and around the world. The event-filled year peaks annually in November with our flagship event Junction: Europe's leading hackathon, bringing 1200+ hackers together for a weekend-long experience. Besides the events, we have built a hackathon platform, Junction App.

The Junction team consists of 8 full-timers in Finland, a bunch of amazing volunteers and our global JunctionX teams in countries across the world. Our team is rather young, and as most of us are students we have a great team spirit and an independent work atmosphere. The work we do is very much self-directed, but we love cooperation and helping each other out. At Junction, we are able to mould our roles to the direction we want, which makes our jobs very motivating. So, as important as it is that you know the basic skills needed for this role, we are all still learning and that’s very much okay!

About the role

This role is full-time. You will be responsible for developing and maintaining Junction's hackathon platform (Junction App) as well as planning and executing the other tech related needs of the company. As part of the full-time team, you’ll work closely with all the other functions of the company. This job is well suited for people who have attended hackathons in the past and are interested in the startup scene. Prior experience in full stack development is required, as you will be developing the Junction App throughout the year. The current stack is MERN (Mongo, Express, React, Node). Being well familiar with all of the technologies isn’t necessary, and there is plenty of room to learn during the year.

Your responsibilities:

• Leading Junction's technical strategy development and implementation
• Developing and maintaining the Junction App (eu.hackjunction.com)
• Managing the Junction App's open source community
• Recruiting and leading a volunteer-based tech team
• Planning and supporting the strategy work of the company together with the other full-timers

This role is perfect for a student or for someone who has just hopped into the work life!

Here’s what we require from you and your know-how:

• You have prior experience with Javascript web development and MERN stack. Experience with Python and Bash is a big plus
• Good understanding of basic security practices and user data management
• You are well-organized and self-motivated (you get to plan your job very freely so good self-management skills are required)
• You can handle stress well and finish your tasks in tight time frames
• You have experience in using Azure and Heroku
• You are familiar with Docker
• You are fluent in English (great Finnish skills are an advantage)
• If you have contributed to any of our open-source projects or volunteered at our events, is a big plus for your application

1575 € per month

1. Application Submission

1. Initial Screening

• The hiring team reviews CVs and selects top candidates for the next stage.

1. Introductory Call

• Shortlisted candidates participate in an introductory call with the CEO and CTO to assess their fit and qualifications.

1. Technical Evaluation

• Candidates who pass the introductory call are invited to a technical interview to evaluate their skills and expertise. You would receive a take-home assignment, intended to be made made within a maximum of 5 hours. which then you would present in person or online in 30 minutes

1. Job Offer by January 6th, 2025

• The best candidate is extended a job offer, marking the final stage of the recruitment process.
• The role would start from January 16th 2025
