Senior Automotive Software & Data Engineer

EV HUB
Norway · Full-time · Entry

EV Hub AS is seeking a highly motivated and skilled Automotive Software & Data Engineer to join our growing team.

This role combines embedded systems engineering with data analysis and reverse engineering. You will own the entire pipeline, from the vehicle communication layer to CAN signal decoding and app integration, delivering intuitive solutions for mechanics. If you enjoy solving complex technical challenges and shaping the future of EV health assessment, this is your opportunity.

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and maintain vehicle communication layers using OBD-II and UDS (ISO 14229) over CAN (ISO 15765).
  • Decode CAN bus signals and reverse engineer proprietary vehicle messages to unlock actionable insights.
  • Build and maintain Python-based tools for data collection, parsing, validation, and visualization.
  • Integrate Bluetooth / BLE adapters for reliable communication between vehicles and Android/iOS applications.
  • Ensure secure, efficient, and scalable data transfer from vehicle ECUs to mobile apps and cloud services.
  • Identify and prioritize “low-hanging fruit” signals that provide immediate diagnostic value for mechanics.
  • Collaborate closely with mobile, backend, and product teams to deliver real-time EV health insights.
  • Contribute to cloud-based infrastructure for storing, processing, and analyzing vehicle telemetry data.
  • Support predictive health assessments and intuitive, traffic-light–based UI features.
  • Maintain clear documentation of protocols, decoded signals, and data pipelines.
  • Uphold best practices for security, reliability, and data integrity.

Qualifications

Must have:

  • Strong proficiency in C/C++ or Rust for embedded or low-level systems.
  • Solid understanding of CAN bus systems and diagnostic protocols (ISO 14229 / ISO 15765).
  • Experience with Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and mobile integration (Android and/or iOS).
  • Strong Python skills for data analysis, tooling, and automation.
  • Experience using CAN sniffing or analysis tools such as SavvyCAN, CANalyzer, or similar.
  • Good understanding of EV architectures and automotive diagnostic systems.
  • Ability to work independently, take ownership, and solve complex technical problems.

Nice to have:

  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS), Docker, and Kubernetes.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, testing frameworks, and DevOps practices.
  • Experience with time-series databases such as InfluxDB or TimescaleDB.
  • Experience with Flutter or cross-platform app development.
  • Previous work with vehicle CAN data, aftermarket tools, or reverse engineering projects.
  • A strong hacker mindset: curious, pragmatic, and driven by learning.

We Offer:

  • Flexible work setup: Oslo office preferred, remote option with occasional travel to Norway
  • Competitive salary and benefits
  • Opportunity to shape the foundation of our EV health platform
  • Work on cutting-edge projects in EV diagnostics and connected car technology
  • A mission-driven team focused on sustainability and simplicity

About us:

We are building the best EV app for mechanics, designed to make electric vehicle health assessment simple, accurate, and actionable, addressing high-voltage parts. Our mission is to empower garages and mechanics with data-driven insights using a traffic-light approach for HV tests, ensuring clarity and speed. By combining real-time vehicle data with our knowledge base and reference data, we guide mechanics toward smarter decisions, reducing complexity and making EV servicing more sustainable.
